The 'Weekend Update' for Elon

Jost will be performing at Elon on Feb. 24 in McCrary Theater. Tickets were available starting Feb. 15 at 10 a.m. in Moseley 207. The event is sponsored by SUB and is free. There is a one ticket per person limit, and a Phoenix card needs to be shown to receive a ticket.

Former men's soccer players sign with former coach

Fomer Elon University men’s soccer head coach Darren Powell signed two former Elon players — defender Sam McBride and midfielder Miguel Salazar — to contracts with San Antonio FC, the club announced Monday. Powell was named head coach of the expansion club in January, and the two former players will play in the United Soccer League (USL) for San Antonio FC, which is the third tier of the soccer system in the United States. “We are very happy for both Miguel and Sam to realize their dream as professional players,” said Elon head coach Chris Little.

Area high school students get jump start on college

"You're allowed to eat in class. I love it. You're also allowed to just get up and go to the bathroom without signing anything or taking a pass," high school senior Laci Breen said. Breen has gotten a newfound taste of independence in a college classroom as part of Collegiate Start at Elon, a program that lets area high school students take up to two college courses.

Revived campus organization supports U.S. troops and their families

Team Hero at Elon University is an organization on campus whose goal is to connect the Elon Community with members of the military and support members of military families. The organization gives support to members of the military and their families mainly through sending care packages, holding bake sales and letter writing campaigns. Indifference to national politics can't be the norm

If you had asked me about a year ago for my opinions on America’s political climate, I might have scoffed and shook my head. While I’ve never been entirely apathetic when it comes to politics — there have always been prominent social issues that I have followed the political responses to — I could never bring myself to take an active interest.

Extra accommodations are necessary for students with learning disabilities

I watch as the thirty-three other students in my class put away their laptops, take out their pencils, and prepare for to take their exam. The room is silent and I try to stand up quietly, but everyone watches as I take a sealed envelope from my professor and head to Duke 108. The problem is not the extra exercise, but rather the feeling of thirty-three sets of eyes on me as I walk out the door. I, as well as many other students, embrace the accommodations Elon offers, but being a college student with learning disabilities is not easy.

Conservative U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia dies at 79

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia died in his sleep last night at age 79 while visiting Texas. According to CNN, President Obama plans on nominating a replacement "as soon as possible." However, Obama will have a challenging time nominating a new member to the court as the senate is Republican-controlled and it is an election year. Dean and Professor of Law at Elon University's School of Law, Luke Bierman, released a statement regarding the passing of Justice Scalia. "With the passing of Justice Scalia, politics just got serious again.

S.C. Senator urges Millennials to consider bipartisan candidates

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Sen. Lindsey Graham, on the campaign trail endorsing former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, said Saturday before the GOP Debate that Millennials need to consider how a commander-in-chief would cooperate with both parties when choosing a candidate to support. “If you can’t find a president who can work with both Democrats and Republicans, your generation is going to suffer,” he said.
