Students divided on importance of luxury in college housing

Photos of the Station at Mill Point have generated excitement for students about their new home, but have also fueled criticism from others. “I am very excited about the Station next year especially the beds, which will be a major upgrade from the twin beds I’ve been sleeping on for the past two years," said sophomore George Adams. The Station at Mill Point, which is scheduled to open in August, will offer junior and senior students townhouse-style living on campus.

New Dean of Business School, emphasizes global connections

Raghu Tadepalli will replace interim dean Scott Buechler as the next dean of the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business July 1, bringing with him a plan to emphasize entrepreneurship and international partnerships. “I told the groups that I spoke with (during the selection process) that I had specific interest in implicating a global mindset because I think that is really important,” Tadepalli said. Tadepalli’s extensive experience in the fields of both business and higher education made him the best candidate for the deanship, said Paul Parsons, dean of the School of Communications and co-chair of the search committee for the position. “He’s a current dean (at Babson College) and he has a very successful record,” Parsons said.

Annual percentage of employed alumni grows

Even following graduation, the Class of 2011 continues to impress as the percentage of alumni employment exceeds previous years, according to the results of the nine-month-out update on the class.  Each graduating class is surveyed three different times: at graduation, three months following graduation and nine months after leaving Elon University. Out of the 91 percent of graduates that completed the survey, 57 percent are employed and 26 percent are enrolled in or have been accepted to graduate or professional school.

Elon graduates offered variety of lifetime benefits

Most graduating seniors are sad to say goodbye to their college years. But through the benefits offered to Elon University graduates by Elon’s Alumni Association, students can continue to stay connected to the university in both fun and rewarding ways. After graduating from Elon, students are automatically considered members of the Elon Alumni Association.

From acorn to oak: growing a tradition

Surprisingly, it started with a redwood tree. When Furman Moseley, Class of 1956, gave Elon University’s commencement address in 1991, he had no idea he was planting the seed of tradition at his alma mater. Moseley spoke about his career in the California timber business, offering each graduate a redwood sapling to solidify the metaphor for life, hard work and growth. “President (Fred) Young and the students loved it so much, he wanted to continue it,” said George Troxler, professor emeritus of history.

See music performed in Whitley Auditorium.  (Preferably organ music.) Play an intramural sport. (Bowling and cornhole are favorites.) Go to your Turning 21 dinner. Volunteer for Safe Rides.  (You’ll never forget it.) Eat at every on-campus dining location once. Make calls for the Elon Poll.  (You’ll talk to the most interesting people. Go to at least one baseball, basketball and football game. Photobomb a communications student taking pictures outside McEwen. Climb the magnolia tree between Long and Alamance.

Elon University enrollment drops below 6,000 for first time since 2018

Elon University’s undergraduate enrollment has dipped below 6,000 students for the first time since spring 2018, according to the Spring Registrar’s Report released Feb. 23. This decrease comes after an 11.6% drop in enrollment for the class of 2029. Part of this pattern can be attributed to the “demographic cliff,” the decreasing supply of college students from a falling national birth rate that began in 2007. The total undergraduate enrollment of 5,974 is a decrease from the 6,226 students the university reported in the spring of 2025. It’s also roughly 200 fewer students than the 6,191 reported in fall 2025. Though overall student numbers dropped, there was also an increase of 523 seniors, compared to the fall report.

Mebane City Council to expand offices, parking for staff

The Mebane City Council purchased a dentist's office and parking lot for $325,000 in a unanimous vote. The property is located across from the City Hall. North Carolina requires local governments to keep a minimum reserve — called a fund balance — equal to 8% of their annual general expenses.
