If sophomore Lilli Zinaman looks vaguely familiar, it may be because you have gone on adventures together.

Zinaman's uncle was a co-creator and cartoonist for Dora the Explorer, an animated children's television series created in 2000 that is geared towards helping children learn Spanish.

The series has inspired books, movies, video games, and a spin-off series, all of it inspired by Zinaman.

"Dora is based on what I looked like at about two or three years old," Zinaman said.

As she flips through pictures of growing up, Zinaman laughs about her "prime Dora years" where photo after photo features Dora's signature bowl cut. Zinaman also says that she and Dora have more in common than just the physical characteristics.

"I feel like I was definitely out there and goofy. I was a shy child... I guess I like to adventure in my own little world like a two year-old," Zinaman said.

One aspect of Dora that Lilli didn't inspire was the knowledge of the Spanish language. Zinaman does not speak any Spanish, and says that the creators of the show added the language component.

Although Zinaman's uncle is no longer involved with the show, he has inspired her as she looks towards her own future.

"My uncle was always kind of in the business of graphic design and television and that whole thing, and that's definitely where I want to go with my major," Zinaman said.
