Let faith take its course

With long strides and a determination to succeed, Katie O’Dunne Kilpatrick bolted through the grassy fields of North Carolina during her first cross country race at Elon University in 2008. Her positive attitude and passion for running propelled her onward, but the more distance she covered, the more she felt an excruciating pain develop in her foot.

Danieley, a beacon of Elon sports pride, to be missed at basketball games

Played within the intimate confines of historic Alumni Gym, the Elon University men’s basketball games tend to be an exciting affair. Though players and opponents have changed from year to year, one tradition has cemented itself as an unmissable part of any Elon game in the last decade. Without fail, after the under-eight media timeout in the second half, students begin to chant, “Dr. Danieley.”

New first-year students stand in a lot of lines their first day on Elon University's campus — long lines for orientation packets, desk hutches and room keys snake through residential neighborhoods. But for those moving into Danieley Neighborhood, at the end of the longest line sat the man the neighborhood was named after: President Emeritus J. Earl Danieley.

JMU ends Elon football's season with 63-14 rout

HARRISONBURG, Va. — A season that was supposed to be one of growth and fulfilled promise finished its freefall Saturday afternoon with expected humiliation, as the Elon University football team lost its seventh straight game 63-14 to the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) champion James Madison University (JMU) in Harrisonburg, Virginia. James Madison’s offense moved the ball at will, gaining 699 yards with a near perfect balance of 362 rushing and 337 passing. “Obviously, their offense is very high-powered,” said sophomore linebacker Matt Baker, who finished with five tackles.

Racial slurs yelled at Elon student Tuesday night

On Tuesday evening between 8:45 p.m. and 10 p.m., a female Elon student had racial slurs yelled at her from a vehicle while walking on campus between the Inman Admissions Welcome Center and the Koury Business Center, according to Dean of Students Smith Jackson and Vice President of University Communications Dan Anderson

Football keeps Allison at forefront

For the Elon University football team, November 11 was more than just a day of practice ahead of its Senior Day game the next day. It had been exactly a year since teammate Demitri Allison died when he fell off of a residential building at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Former Elon University student arrested for sexual exploitation charge

A Burlington man, who previously attended Elon University, was arrested April 21 and charged with four counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. Nikolaos Alexander Fotiou, 18, was taken to the Alamance County Detention Center and is being held there under no bond, as of April 24. According to a Burlington Police Department press release, the Invictus Task Force aided with the investigation.

Meet Elon University’s 2026 Lumen Prize winners

Fifteen students have been selected to receive $20,000 to support their mentored research and projects for the next two years as a part of the Lumen Prize. The 2026 Lumen Scholar winners will work closely with their mentors on their projects during their junior and senior years.
