Carnegie Hall presents: The Shirley Tempos

For the Shirley Tempos, one of Elon University’s female a cappella groups, the members never imagined scoring an opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City. However, their dreams will soon become a reality Sunday, April 14 when they will perform in Total Vocal, a contemporary a cappella music concert in Midtown Manhattan, with Deke Sharon, the father of contemporary a cappella who created the event.  In this performance, 14 of the 16 Shirley Tempos members will sing four songs, “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”, “Put on a Happy Face”, “Summertime” and “We Are Home”, while also enjoying arrangements from cast members of the movie Pitch Perfect. In order to receive this opportunity, president of Shirley Tempos Sabrina Campelo ’18 took the initiative.

Students flood Chapel Hill's Franklin Street following UNC's National Championship victory

That was the word on everyone's lips as thousands clad in Carolina blue swarmed Franklin Street in Chapel Hill on Monday night.  After falling in last year's National Championship game, the University of North Carolina Tar Heels beat Gonzaga in Phoenix, Ariz., and fans back on campus celebrated in grand fashion. In one of UNC's most famous athletic traditions, throngs of Carolina faithful formed a sea of celebration on the corner of Franklin St.

Elon freshman shares inspiring battle with cancer

Elon Freshman Olivia Pierce was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer which destroys local tissue and weakens the bone. According to the American Cancer Society, it affects about 450 children and teens under the age of 20 each year.

Phoenix sweeps JMU with complete game shutout from freshman Brnovich

The Elon University Baseball team defeated James Madison University by a score of 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at Latham Park, sweeping the Dukes in their three game series, extending a winning streak to six. Although the Phoenix won the first two games of the series in high-scoring affairs, Sunday’s game was decidedly a pitching duel.
