Senior ends men’s basketball career with a smile

The Elon University men’s basketball team concludes its home schedule Thursday night, and the Senior Night festivities bring out the emotions from head coach Matt Matheny. “It comes so fast — you can see it in the face of our players when they realize that this is it,” Matheny said.

SPDC hosts inagural On-Campus Employment Fair

Elon University’s Student Professional Development Center (SPDC) hosted its first on-campus student employment fair Wednesday afternoon. The event was held in McKinnon Hall in Moseley center, where over 14 on-campus employers set up booths for prospective employees.

Elon Dining finds its place in ‘local’ movement

Chris Fulkerson, Elon University’s assistant vice president for administrative services and assistant professor of communications, has witnessed massive changes in university dining options since first joining staff in 1982. As he reflects today on the old days of mystery meat nights with little-to-no options for students, he can’t help but think positively on how far the university has come in the last several decades.

Women’s lacrosse starts season with 3 wins

Down a pair of goals in the second half on the road to Coastal Carolina University, the Elon University women’s lacrosse team didn’t waver. After sophomore midfielder Abby Godfrey scored her second goal of the game to put the Phoenix to within one, junior attacker Sloane Kessler scored the game-tying and game-winning goals in the span of 1:04 to give Elon a 5-4 comeback victory and a 3-0 record to start the year.  “We were off a little bit off in a lot of respects,” said head coach Josh Hexter.

The 'Black History Month Dance Celebration' bring inspiration from Ghana

Black History Month is often a reflection of the achievements made by black Americans. This education will take on a new form with the dance celebration put on by the performing arts department, combining an original collaboration between faculty, students and professionals in a dance, spoken word and singing event to celebrate black history on Feb. 26 in Yeager Recital Hall.

Phoenix faces concerns after sluggish opening weekend

The long meetings in right field after the final out have been a common occurrence during Mike Kennedy’s tenure as Elon University baseball coach, a sign of frustrations, shortcomings and most importantly, a loss. It’s surprising there was one this early in the season, so surprising that it signified a spot in the record books that probably wasn’t too pleasing to the coach in his 20th year leading his alma mater. Valerie Epperson, residente del condado de Alamance, afirmó que no cree que estaría viva si no fuera por la Clínica Open Door del condado de Alamance, una clínica que brinda atención médica gratuita a personas sin seguro médico. “Cuando empecé a ir a la clínica, mi diabetes estaba descontrolada y comía lo que quería. Local healthcare clinic provides lifeline to uninsured Alamance County residents

Alamance County resident Valerie Epperson said she doesn’t think she would be alive right now if it were not for the Open Door Clinic of Alamance County, a clinic that provides free healthcare to people who do not have insurance. “When I first started, my diabetes were out of control, and I was just eating anything I wanted. It’s like, I just didn’t care,” Epperson said. “When you have someone there to help you, it keeps your mind open all the time about, ‘Hey, you need to do this. You need to stop doing this.’”
