Senior midfielder James Brace scored the decisive goal for the second straight match as No. 11 Elon University men's soccer team defeated the University of North Carolina at Wilmington 2-1 Oct 14.

Nicole Dennion returns for Elon women's soccer Senior Day

Emotions always run high on a Senior Day, but they were cranked up an extra notch at the Oct. 11 Elon University women’s soccer team's match. Senior forward Nicole Dennion, former Southern Conference Player of the Year who missed last year while battling cancer, made her first appearance in two years by taking the opening kickoff in the lineup for the Phoenix. After kicking off the match, she ran to the sideline for a substitute to applause from both teams and fans. “An indescribable level [of emotion],” said head coach Chris Neal. “It was really good having her here.”

Women's soccer tops College of Charleston 2-0

On Senior Day at Rudd Field, it was the youngsters that shined for the Elon University women’s soccer team in a 2-0 win over the College of Charleston.

Terry has career night as volleyball falls to College of Charleston

Freshman outside hitter Kam Terry had a career night as the Elon University volleyball team fell to Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) rival the College of Charleston 3-1 (25-17, 21-25, 25-20, 26-24). Terry led the Phoenix offensively with 18 kills on the night and finished with 11 blocks in the match.

The Elon University women's soccer team scored early and often Tuesday night, defeating Francis Marion University 6-0 in Florence, S.C., in a late non-conference matchup. Senior defender Mel Insley got the Phoenix on the board in the 14th minute, scoring her third goal of the season, on all free kicks.

When senior forward Cooper Vandermaas-Peeler arrived on Elon University’s campus in January 2015 he wasn’t alone.  The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill transfer not only joined eager new teammates but also enjoyed a homecoming of sorts with close friends and family. This morning Elon Athletics released the complete 2015-2016 men's basketball schedule. Following an exhibition game against William Peace, the Phoenix will start the season on the road with games at Charlotte and Michigan.

Working hard not to be noticed

The Elon University football team has had struggles on offense this season, as they currently rank 120th out of 123 Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) teams in total offense. The inability to move the ball on offense has given the special teams unit plenty of opportunities.

For members of the Elon softball team, they spent their evening at Allied Churches of Alamance County handing out food to the those in need. Patrons lined up outside the Burlington shelter anxiously awaiting a dinner featuring turkey and cheese sandwiches, salad and various tasty desserts.

The impending rain coming from Hurricane Joaquin has forced postponements of matches for both the Elon University men's and women's soccer teams this weekend. The next match for the women's team is 7 p.m. Monday at Francis Marion University. The men will not be in action again until 7 p.m. Oct. 10, against Lipscomb University.
