Suicide prevention QPR program promoted through Elon

Suicide is the second most common cause of death among college students, according to the American Psychological Association. An online suicide-prevention training that launched in March 2017 is available to members of Elon University, but according to Anita Smith, assistant director of counseling services, it doesn’t replace mental health experts.

Elon chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity suspended from campus

The national Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity Board of Directors voted to suspend the Elon chapter. According to Tad Lichtenauer, Lambda Chi Alpha National Director of communications & IT, the suspension is a result of repeated social violations over several semesters, including holding un-registered parties off-campus.

Football falls in national rankings

For the first time in seven weeks, the Elon University football team has fallen in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) rankings. The Phoenix falls from No. 7 in the STATS FCS poll to No. 11. In the FCS Coaches Poll, the Maroon and Gold dropped six spots, from No. 9 to No. 15.

SGA and BSU make strides to better race relations at Elon

In light of the Student Government Association’s Inclusivity Week, the body joined with the Black Student Union  to discuss the state of race relations on Elon University's campus. On Thursday evening, SGA and BSU held a town hall forum for an open conversation discussing race. A topic thoroughly discussed throughout the forum was the feeling of exclusion of minority groups on campus. Phrases like “microaggressions” and “sense of belonging” were repeated as the students expressed themselves.

Women's basketball blows out Winthrop in season opener

The defending Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) champions were wire-to-wire winners on Friday when the Elon University women’s basketball team faced off against the Winthrop University Eagles in its final home opener inside Alumni Gym on Friday. After beginning the game with a 12-3 run, the Phoenix never looked back, blowing out the Eagles 98-37.

The No. 1 Duke University Blue Devils stomped the Elon University men’s basketball team 97-68 in front of a dense crowd in Cameron Indoor Arena Friday night.

EDITORIAL: Better support is needed for students witnessing acts of terror

Recently, the fear of acts of terror has cast a shadow over the joys of going abroad. In recent years, acts of terror — including domestic terrorism here in the United States committed by Americans and acts of terror internationally committed by larger terror organizations — seemingly occur almost every other week. These tragedies can have great emotional impact on anyone, especially those in close proximity to the situation.

Class of 1967 reflects on Elon's changes, similarities fifty years after graduation

When the Class of 1967 graduated from Elon 50 years ago, Elon was still a college, the mascot was a Fighting Christian and Doctor J. Early Danieley was the president. Sandy Bergman Inman, a class of 1967 graduate, had not been back to Elon since her 10th reunion in 1977. Inman said when she stepped on campus for the first time in 40 years, she "could not believe how much it had changed."
