Elon University dance program to host Black in the Theatre, Black History Month dance concert

Elon Dance partnered with the CREDE this year to put together this Black History Month Dance Concert called Black in the Theatre, directed by Keisha Wall, professor of dance at Elon. Together, they chose the theme “Black Renaissance” to celebrate Black art. Black in the Theatre has been put on at Elon since 2012 as part of Black History Month, but in 2020 — with Wall as the new director — they held their last in-person performance right before the COVID-19 pandemic placed concerts on pause. In 2021 and 2022, the performance was filmed with dancers wearing masks.

My Saturday morning begins at 6:30 a.m. All my tools, camera equipment and water bottles are already in a bag. The only thing I need to do is put on my lycra and take my bike out to the car. Elon alumna covers the 2023 Super Bowl

Elon University alumna Caroline Brehman ’18 will not only be attending the 2023 Super Bowl game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles on Feb.12 in Phoenix, Arizona, but she will be on the sidelines working as a photojournalist for the Eagles through European Pressphoto Agency.

Elon University Gender & LGBTQIA Center to host do-it-yourself valentines event

Communications and Resources Manager Elon University's Gender & LGBTQIA Center sophomore James Hemmingway and CLEAR Manager for the GLC junior Oliver McGowan are coordinating an event inspired by the theme of Valentine's Day. On Feb. 10, they are inviting students on campus to make postcards for faculty and staff that made an impact on their Elon experience, specifically with the GLC from 5 to 7 p.m. in Moseley 206.

Grief, loss support group provides comfort for Elon faculty, staff

Elon University associate chaplain Rev. Julie Tonnesen said loss and grief are universal emotions, but found that they can be difficult for faculty and staff to process while continuing their usual routines. “Even when we show up to work, that doesn’t mean that we get to put the rest of our lives on the back burner,” Tonnesen said. “Our grief comes with us. It’s not something we can just keep on a shelf at home.” In collaboration with Counseling Services, the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life, began offering a monthly group for faculty and staff to support those affected by loss.

45 años después de los primeros casos de VIH/SIDA reportados en Estados Unidos, la lucha contra esta enfermedad está lejos de terminar, especialmente en el sur del país. Según los datos más recientes de los Centros para el Control y la Prevención de Enfermedades, el sur representó el 52% de todos los diagnósticos de VIH en Estados Unidos en 2023. "Sabemos que el VIH/SIDA ha afectado de manera desproporcionada a las personas de color y a las personas LGBTQ+ de color en este país", afirmó Jeff Bennett, profesor de estudios de comunicación en la Universidad de Vanderbilt. "Hay muchas personas que viven en zonas rurales, existe desconfianza hacia los profesionales de la salud y persiste el estigma social".
