New neighborhood built to focus on political activism

It’s been more than six months since the East campus gym was demolished, but three residential halls will take its place by August 2018. While the name of the East campus residential neighborhood has not been determined, it will provide housing for 309 students — both freshmen and sophomores — according to Brad Moore, director of construction management.

Men's soccer knocked out of conference tournament

 In the CAA quarterfinals game this weekend, the game-winner came in the 66th minute, when Elon conceded a penalty and Charleston senior striker Leland Archer delivered calmly from the spot. The Cougars were then able to keep Elon from scoring over the final 24 minutes, securing the victory and punching a ticket to the semifinals.

Jon Bellion headlined the Homecoming weekend annual concert tonight in a technicolor performance. The rain held off for the duration of Bellion's performance, almost all the vendors organized by the Student Union Board (SUB) and SGA stepped out because of the rainy weather.

Elon freshman DJ prepares to open for homecoming concert

Singer-songwriter Jon Bellion will be here in concert at Elon this weekend as a culmination of homecoming celebrations. As part of the concert, Student Union Board found a student here on campus to open for the concert to tie the Elon community even further into the concert.  SUB Concert Committee Director, Colton Cadarette said Ben Warters was the perfect candidate for the event because of his determination.

Phoenix basketball teams look to start seasons off right

Entering the final year in Alumni Gym, both the Elon University men and women's basketball teams look to be competitive in the Colonial Athletic Association. The men have a 31-game slate, not including the preseason exhibition game on Nov. 1 against Randolph College. The women will have a 29-game list, adding an additional preseason exhibition game against Anderson University on Nov. 5. Head coaches Matt Matheny and Charlotte Smith enter their ninth and seventh years at the helm, respectively, and provided their thoughts on the Phoenix teams and what they hope to accomplish this season.

New alumni network brings Latinx and Hispanic community members together

Homecoming Weekend brings hundreds of alumni back to Elon University to visit the campus they once called home. This year, a new alumni group is making their debut: the Elon Latinx Hispanic Alumni Network (ELHAN).  The creation of an alumni network for Latinx- and Hispanic-identified students has been in the works for several years, but considering the growth of the Latinx/Hispanic population at Elon over the last several years, many saw now as the perfect time to create a formal group.

The Elon community gathered in Numen Lumen Pavilion Sunday night to mourn the death of Breslin Wiley, the 21-year-old junior who died unexpectedly Saturday. Every seat in the Sacred Space was filled. People had to line the walls and doorways to make room.

SGA prepares for second year with new "homecoming royalty" model

This year, SGA continues to make changes to an Elon University tradition by bringing hundreds of alumni and students together each year.  Homecoming weekend comes every fall with tailgates, football and the annual Homecoming concert headlined this year by Jon Bellion.
