Renaissance Revived brings Black joy to Elon University community

Throughout the conference, attendees were able to attend a keynote presentation by Alex Bohannon ‘17, student-led roundtable discussions and a mocktail hour. The social hour included a photobooth, food and live music performed by the New Orleans Second Line Brass Band Procession.

Elon University men’s basketball loses emotional Senior Night game

The Elon University men’s basketball team started off hot making 9-16 shots in the opening minutes on Saturday but fell off as the game went on, allowing the University of Delaware to dominate and win 70-54. Elon, who came into Saturday’s game with its first round Colonial Athletic Association Tournament matchup already locked in against William & Mary, did not have much to play for with regard to standings.

Elon University raises $48K during Relay for Life

Elon University students honored survivors, fighters, caregivers and those who have lost their lives to cancer with the annual event, Relay for Life Friday. For twelve consecutive hours, members of the campus community including fraternities, sororities and service based organizations participated in the event that raised $48,985.14.

Shea Sprague dominant again as Elon University baseball cruises past University of Akron

Elon University track and field wins inaugural CAA indoor championship

The Elon University track and field team scored in all 18 events to win the first-ever Colonial Athletic Association indoor team championship on Thursday. The Phoenix tallied 129.83 points to edge runner-up Hampton, who scored 121.33 points. Sophomore distance runner Jette Beermann won Elon’s lone gold medal with a victory in the mile race.

Tuition, loan interest increase amplify Elon student concerns

Junior Jasmine Smith toured colleges knowing she might not be able to attend a four-year university without a scholarship. She had two choices in spring 2020 — the second semester of her senior year of high school —  pay upward of $62,000 per year for the University of the Arts in Philadelphia or pay what was $51,062 per year at the time.  Despite a scholarship, Smith is paying her tuition and fees out of pocket.

Elon University track and field competes in first CAA indoor championship

Of all of the athletes within the Elon University track and field team, one name has continued to stand out: sophomore sprinter and jumper Meghan Wilcox. In 2022, she was the Colonial Athletic Association champion in the 4x400 meter relay, all-CAA in the 100-meters and all-CAA in the 4x100 meter relay. Her success has only continued throughout the start of the 2023 season, similar to the success the team as a whole has achieved.

Elon students create university's first LGBTQIA arts festival

Senior Jack Morrill first discovered the power in Elon’s LGBTQIA communities as a freshman, after meeting three other LGBTQIA students at Lakeside Dining Hall. Morrill said the group talked throughout the night, staying up until at least 2 a.m. exchanging stories about their lives and identities.

Cheating or a resource: Elon University faculty balance ChatGPT in classroom

The bot in question is an artificial intelligence chatbot called ChatGPT, released in November 2022 by San Francisco-based research laboratory OpenAI. It is not the first of its kind — Siri, Grammarly and customer service bots are all examples of chatbot technology. But ChatGPT distinguishes itself with its ability to answer advanced, creative questions and remember the thread of dialogue.

Elon University students assist with Turkey, Syria earthquake relief

The group worked with sophomore Miray Konar, an international student from Izmir, Turkey. Konar has been raising money since the earthquake hit and worked closely with the Arabic Language Organization to set up a donation table in Elon’s Moseley Center Feb. 17.
