​Women’s soccer wraps up nonconference play with a win

First half goals from junior defender Kendall Ballotti and freshman striker Tori Baliatico helped the Elon University women's soccer team wrap up nonconference play and bounce back from Sunday’s loss vs JMU with a 2-0 victory against South Carolina State University Thursday night at Rudd Field. Senior goalkeeper Taylor Mohr was able to record her second shutout of the season, coming up with four big saves to help her team keep the lead in her second consecutive start.

Journalism legend Bob Woodward discusses political topics at Fall Convocation

“All the President’s Men,” a book and movie documenting Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists Bob Woodward’s and Carl Bernstein's investigation of the Watergate scandal, has been nominated for Academy Awards and hailed internationally by critics. But for Woodward, the movie helped him win something else in the 1970s, too. “During that era, I could get a date on the telephone with almost anyone,” Woodward said, chuckling. “And then I would show up at the door, and the date would look, and then I would see disappointment.”

Dancers to perform first show of the season

Throughout the week, students have been stretching on stairs and doing pirouettes on the sidewalks of Global Neighborhood. Turing the heads of onlookers, they've actually gotten a sneak peek of "Dancing in the Landscape," a performing arts production that will utilize the sites of campus on Oct. 1 at noon in Love Terrance.

SMART program hopes to expand on social climate recommendations

Jamie Butler and Jazmine Langley had different experiences with mentorship, but that common thread has connected them going forward at Elon University. Butler, assistant director of the Center for Race, Ethnicity and Diversity Education (CREDE) said she didn’t have a specific mentor in high school or college and was forced to navigate varying challenges without reassuring guidance.

Football pulls off historic upset at #8 William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — When freshman defensive back Daniel Reed-Bennett’s interception sealed the win for the Elon University football team at the College of William and Mary Saturday night, junior defensive lineman Dondre Howell couldn’t contain his pride. “On that last play of the game, I threw my hands and I almost cried,” Howell said.

1st year, 1st audition, 1st musical

The Department of Performing Arts will be presenting the musical “Parade” in November. All of the Musical Theatre students, including first-year students, already auditioned and some of them got cast for the musical.  The audition for “Parade” was the first-year students’ first audition.

Council on Civic Engagement panel hopes to bring racial discussion to Elon

The Council on Civic Engagement's sponsored a paneled discussion, "Columbus, Tulsa, and Charlotte: What's Next?" in McBride  Associated Professor of Psychology Buffie Longmire-Avital moderated the event, and spoke about her experiences as a mother of two black children and growing up in the Unites States as a black woman.  During the discussion, audience members asked questions to the panel which was composed of academics from different areas of expertise from all over campus.  One of these panelists, David Baker, is a visiting Fullbright Scholar and Senior Lecturer in Criminology from Coventry University in the United Kingdom.

Debate watch party draws hundreds to Moseley

Around 250 people attended the presidential debate watch party in Moseley hosted by Elon Votes! and the Center for Leadership. Students and faculty enjoyed ice cream, played debate bingo and listened as Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump debated for the first time. The watch party, which showed the debate on a large screen in the student center, is the first of a number of election-related events throughout the semester put on by Elon Votes!
