Campaigning for U.S. House of Representatives District 4: Valerie Foushee hopes to protect voting rights, ensure the right to reproductive freedom and preserve the environment

North Carolina State Senator Valerie Foushee is running for the U.S. House of Representatives in District 4 as a Democrat and was previously elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives in 2013. She was appointed to the North Carolina Senate later that year where she still serves now.

Campaigning for the US House of Representatives: Courtney Geels wants to limit the power of the federal government and protect the 2nd Amendment

Courtney Geels said as someone who has never been a politician before, running in the primary elections was intimidating because there are so many polarizing topics that could irritate people before a conversation has begun. Geels said as a nurse, she knows how to talk to different kinds of people, and she has employed this same skill while campaigning.

Abortion on the ballot

The debate over abortion rights has become inseparable from this year’s midterm election campaigns, with 50% U.S. voters reporting they are more motivated to vote this fall because the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, according to recent polling from the Kaiser Family Foundation.

Elon University’s Active Minds hosts walk for suicide prevention

 In collaboration with Alpha Omicron Pi, the Walk for Suicide Prevention was organized to increase mental health awareness throughout the Elon community and featured tables hosted by various organizations and local businesses. Along with Active Minds, which raised nearly $1,500, AOII, Smitty’s Ice Cream, Phoenix Free, Counseling Services and Nate’s Cookies had tables at the walk to show their support for mental health awareness.
