
Elon University student-athletes balance athletics, honors work
This year, nine students out of 166 in the program are on varsity sports teams. The program is open to everyone who applies to Elon, including student-athletes.
Caleigh Lawlor '24 is studying journalism and sport management at Elon University. Lawlor serves as a multimedia journalist at Elon News Network, reporting, taking photos and video for the organization. As a student-journalist, Lawlor focuses on sports and the stories of Elon's student-athletes and their teams. When she is not reporting, Lawlor enjoys listening to music, watching old movies and hanging out with her friends. She hopes to work in the sports industry and pursue a master's degree in sport management after graduation.

Sophomore pitcher and first baseman Cole Reynolds was recruited to play for the Burlington Sock Puppets this past summer after a successful 2020-21 season with the Elon baseball team.

Elon University’s women’s soccer team and 2021 CAA champion is set to face the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers in the first round of the NCAA Women’s Soccer tournament. The game is set to take place April 28 at 3 p.m. at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina. This will be the first time that the Phoenix will face the Panthers in team history.
Apple Ngamwong has come a long way to play golf at Elon University — literally. The freshman, ranked third in the Colonial Athletic Association conference in women’s golf, is doing it all 9,000 miles away from home. Ngamwong, a Bangkok, Thailand native, said despite her success, it’s still hard to be far away from her home country.
Women Influencers in Sport, or WINS, is teaching Elon’s young women confidence and career skills necessary to become successful in the sports industry. Their primary focus is educating young women about what it is like to go into the male-dominated sports industry while empowering them to use their voice to its fullest potential.
Elon women’s basketball will not be advancing in the 2021 Colonial Athletic Association championship. The no. 6 Phoenix lost to the no. 3 Dragons 65 - 59 in the quarterfinals. The Phoenix had the opportunity to host the event at Schar Center for the second year in a row after the tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
