SGA allocates funds to 86 student organizations despite budget decrease

The Student Government Association approved funding for 86 campus organizations, with money remaining in the organization budget. More money was requested from the SGA by student organizations for 2012-2013 than last year, but approved allocations for the upcoming year total slightly less compared to the past year. At  the culmination of budget hearings March 1, allocations for student organizations totaled $484,293.40, and a remainder of $20,990.60 will be allocated to the 26 SGA-recognized campus organizations that did not yet submit budget applications. “We (trimmed) the fat off the budget this year,” said Nick Livengood, current executive treasurer.

Russia passes new anti-gay law St. Petersburg legislatures approved a law Feb. 29 that prohibits homosexual propaganda. Gay rights groups have expressed the fear that they will not be able to pursue their agendas as they have been allowed to in the past.

Phoenix falls to Wildcats in SoCon semifinals

Davidson College used a 25-6 run in the second half to defeat the Elon Phoenix 83-67 in the semifinals of the 2012 Men's Basketball Southern Conference Tournament in Asheville, N.C. The Wildcats held Elon without a field goal for 11:02 while pulling away.

So they did it. The Elon University men's basketball team defeated Georgia Southern University in the quarterfinals of the 2012 Southern Conference Tournament. I wrote here just over 24 hours ago that I thought it was possible, that anything could happen in the Southern Conference Tournament.

Phoenix defeats Georgia Southern, advance to semifinals of SoCon Tournament

Elon University sophomore guard Jack Isenbarger had eighteen points, including a perfect 9-9 on free throws, and the Phoenix defeated Georgia Southern University 65-58 Saturday night in the quarterfinals of the 2012 Southern Conference Tournament in Asheville, N.C. With the victory, the Phoenix advances to face Davidson College Sunday at 8:30 p.m.

Elon men to face Georgia Southern in SoCon Tournament quarterfinals

With their victory over the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, the Georgia Southern University Eagles will face the Elon Phoenix in the quarterfinals of the 2012 Men's Basketball Southern Conference Tournament. The Phoenix has faced the Eagles once this season, dropping a 69-63 decision to Georgia Southern Jan.

Mebane City Council to expand offices, parking for staff

The Mebane City Council purchased a dentist's office and parking lot for $325,000 in a unanimous vote. The property is located across from the City Hall. North Carolina requires local governments to keep a minimum reserve — called a fund balance — equal to 8% of their annual general expenses.

School of Education classrooms, offices move as Mooney renovations progress

Renovations to Elon University’s Mooney Building are in progress after it closed at the beginning of Winter Term. The building’s closure was announced Jan. 8 and renovations officially began Jan. 14. All upgrades are expected to be finished by the end of summer in time for the fall semester.
