Elon sends off seniors in style against Davidson

On a cold, dreary afternoon outside Alumni Gym, smiles shined bright inside both before and after the Elon University women’s basketball team's 72-56 home season finale and senior day win against the Davidson College Wildcats. “A great team effort and just excited to get the win,” said Elon head coach Charlotte Smith. Prior to the game, Elon's five seniors, Ali Ford, Kesley Evans, Shon Redmond, Lei Lei Hariston and Arayael Brander, were honored for their time sporting the maroon and gold.

Religious studies professor connects music, spirituality

The room was packed Feb. 25 as L.D. Russell, a religious studies professor at Elon University, delivered a presentation on the relationship between music and spirituality and how both give meaning to human lives. Russell explained how both music and religion provide comfort, community and identity for many young people. “Music is a quiet revolution among young people, and you’re creating new spiritualties,” Russell said. Just as religions have subcultures, so do music communities, according to Russell.

Drones kill innocents daily

Imagine that armed combat drones circled Elon as a regular occurrence.  There would be a constant buzzing in your ears, eventually joined by a sudden whoosh, punctuated by a deafening explosion.  This is what daily life is like in Yemen, Pakistan and Somalia.  We are not at war with any of these countries, yet we rain death upon them from the sky with uncaring, unfeeling machines whose operators sit in offices far away, detached from the carnage. Non-traditional Greek recruitment in full swing at end of February

While the spring recruitment period for many students is finished for this year, several sororities and fraternities on campus have yet to begin recruitment. These non-traditional and budding Greek organizations all have recruitment on the horizon and are hoping to gain new members within the next few weeks. Can the USA win the World Baseball Classic?

On March 8, the United States will begin play in the third edition of the World Baseball Classic, a global tournament that is baseball’s version of the World Cup. In 2006 and 2009, the first two editions of the Classic, the Japanese team claimed the title, with the Americans being eliminated in the second round of pool play in 2006 and in the semifinals in 2009.
