Odds on who plays for the BCS National Championship

Last week was one of the most exciting and meaningful weeks in college football this season. Three top-15 matchups, including a pair of top-10 showdowns, helped to clear up (albeit in a small fashion) the national title hunt. The University of Oregon, one of the most overrated programs of the last few years, is out for now.

What went wrong for Georgia Southern football this season?

Although they were ineligible for the Southern Conference championship in 2013, Georgia Southern University’s Eagles were picked to finish with the best record in the league. Junior fullback Dominique Swope, who rushed for 1,246 yards in 2012, was back on a team that advanced to the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision quarterfinals.

Phillippines' Typhoon Haiyan Impacts Elon

First-year student Gaby Chiongbian has lived in the Philippines all her life but now misses home more than ever. "It really does make you feel homesick but more than anything I feel helpless," Chiongbian says. Chiongbian called home to her family on Saturday, who was near the eye of Typhoon Haiyan. "I asked them, 'What time is it?' and they said 'It's two.' I apologized, but I was so scared for them," she says.

Elon’s 'Instant Laughter' improv show is a Homecoming hit

On Friday and Saturday of Elon University’s homecoming weekend, the Department of Performing Arts presented its third annual evening of improvisation, titled “Instant Laughter,” in Yeager Recital Hall.

A whole new DIY: TrendFACTORY exhibit invites students to create community art

Art exhibits in museums are usually made to be seen and never touched. But that is not the case for artist and University of Texas professor Leslie Mutchler's fifth and last TrendFACTORY exhibit in the new Arts West Gallery at Elon University. Mutchler said every time the show moves locations and has a new audience, it changes the type of experience the viewers receive. Upon entering the gallery, a visitor would see huge, numbered instructions on the wall.

AUDIO: 'Homeless to high-flying' dog show promotes rescue and adoption

For students who may be missing their pets at home, the K-9s in Flight exhibition at the North Carolina State Fair gave fairgoers the chance to pet some well-trained rescue dogs and cheer for their long jumps, frisbee catching and flips. Although he is a strong advocate for rescuing and adopting dogs from shelters, trainer John Misita urges college students to think cautiously about adopting a pet before they are ready.

Ask an Alum: The adventures of working abroad

This piece is the fifth in a series of “Ask an Alum” columns that will be periodically published online through a partnership between Elon University’s Young Alumni Council and The Pendulum. I was twenty-two years old, a top business student with a list of job offers and in love with a “good guy with a good career.”  But my heart was calling for me from Asia. With one major in international business and a second in Asian/Pacific studies, I inherently knew a career abroad was on my path, but I didn’t know when.

Elon University, Go Baby Go modify cars for children with mobility challenges

Elon University’s Innovation Hall was filled with the high-pitched hums of electric motors and the sounds of childhood play April 4. The noises came from the first Go Baby Go program at Elon, where the community takes standard electric toy cars and adapts them for children who cannot traditionally operate one.
