Early on, it was clear that Elon University and Central Pennsylvania College would be playing in a fast-paced, up-tempo game on Dec. 19.

In the first five minutes of action, there was just one whistle blown by the referees.

What ensued, though, was a bit more unprecedented. The Phoenix set a school-record for points scored in a 126-78 rout of the Knights in front of 987 fans inside Alumni Gym.

It’s the second time this year Elon has hit the century mark, and the 59th time in school history. The Phoenix scored its 100th point of the game with seven minutes to play.

Elon shot 58.6 percent overall, making 51 of 87 shots. The Phoenix also made 83.3 percent of its free throws, while Central Penn shot just 57.1 percent at the charity stripe.

Central Penn is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA). The Knights fall to 8-5 with the loss.

Holding a rare height advantage, Elon took advantage by grabbing 61 rebounds and holding Central Penn to just 35. Senior forward Ryley Beaumont broke out of a rough stretch by grabbing 10 boards in addition to posting a season-high 19 points.

LAST TIME OUT: Elon drops close one to Georgetown

Beaumont helped Elon get going early, scoring six points in the first five minutes to give the Phoenix a 13-9 lead. Central Penn cut that lead to 17-14 shortly after a media timeout, but Elon stretched its lead to nine at the under-eight media timeout. The Phoenix then went on an 11-4 run in just over four minutes to take a 43-27 advantage. At halftime, Beaumont had 14 points and the Phoenix was in the lead by a 56-36 score.

The lead kept building, and just over six minutes into the second half, Elon was up by 30. By the time there was ten minutes remaining in the game, four of five Phoenix starters were in double-figures in the scoring column. At the final media timeout of the game, Elon was up, 117-71.

Senior guard Sebastian Koch once again caught fire from the field, this time posting a team-high 21 points. Senior forward Lucas Troutman added 16 while junior guard Tanner Samson had 14. Junior guard Kevin Blake and freshman forward Christian Hairston scored 13 and 10 points, respectively.

13 different Elon players scored, and 14 different players pulled down at least one rebound. The Phoenix outscored the Knights, 78-20, inside the paint.

Central Penn’s Andres Batte scored a game-high 31 points.

The 126 points could be a sign of good things to come for Elon, along with the 49 points scored from bench players. The Phoenix had been struggling to get quality minutes from non-starters as of late.

The win puts Elon back at .500 at 6-6 with a trip ahead to Boca Raton, Florida, on Dec. 22 to battle Florida Atlantic University.
