During the Elon University football team’s bye week, the message “Four-Game Season” was visible throughout the meeting rooms and locker rooms. “It’s really been the focus,” said redshirt freshman quarterback Connor Christiansen.

Elon offense leads way in exhibition win

The Elon University men's basketball team used a strong first half and an impressive debut by freshman Dainan Swoope to run past Division III William Peace University 95-73 in an exhibition game Thursday night at Alumni Gym. The Phoenix came out flying, jumping out to a 14-point lead less than eight minutes in and frustrating William Peace with a fluid motion offense and crisp passing game. Swoope scored a game-high 23 points for the Phoenix while senior guard Tanner Samson scored 14 points and freshman Tyler Siebring added 11 points and eight rebounds in the victory. Throughout the night Elon used a variety of sets, rotating players in and out with frequency.

Men's basketball prepares for season with exhibition win

The Elon University men's basketball team flashed its offensive prowess Thursday, shooting 58.8-percent in the first half in a  victory over William Peace University. The Phoenix shot 58.8-percent from the field in the first half, with 20 baskets spread across 10 players in the half.

Global Neighborhood dinner fosters discussion of GMOs, food industry

Discussion buzzed in Lakeside following a presentation the evening of Nov. 3. “Seeds of an Idea: Public Policy to Preserve and Protect our Food Chain” explored the origins of our food and the system within the industry. Betty Morgan, associate professor of political science and chair of the Department of Political Science and Policy Studies at Elon University, served as the faculty speaker. Olivia Choplin, Interim Faculty Director of the Global Neighborhood and associate professor of French in the Department of World Languages and Cultures, hosted the event. According to Choplin, food is an important topic within all communities, but not one often intellectually discussed. Global Neighborhood’s theme this year — "Food: The Culture, Ethics and Politics of Eating" — attempts to kick-start a dialogue about what we are consuming.

Women’s soccer finds positives despite rough run in CAA

As far as women’s soccer goes, the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) is one of the best conferences in the NCAA. At the conclusion of the regular season, six of the 10 conference teams were ranked in the top 70 of the NCAA’s Rating Percentage Index (RPI). The Elon University women’s soccer team was not one of those six teams, finishing 10th in the conference. And yet, head coach Chris Neal sees a lot of good that came out of the season.

Next week, six lucky communications students, including a few members of our staff, will be traveling to Joao Pessoa, Brazil to participate in the tenth annual Internet Governance Forum and explore the future of the internet. "We take student-faculty teams across the world to big internet events to ask people at these events, the smartest people, about the internet, what they think might be happening now and in the future," she said. The role of the project is to look at the future of the Internet, a topic Anderson says is relevant to students. "The children are the future and so when people at these events see the people they're building the internet future for, they get very inspired and they also give really great answers.
