Women's basketball scorching through start of CAA play

It would be forgivable if junior guard Shay Burnett and the Elon University women’s basketball team showed off a little bit of their confidence right about now. The Phoenix has won nine straight games — a program record for the Division I era and the longest winning streak since 1981-1982 — and currently sits alone atop the Colonial Athletic Association standings, holding a perfect 5-0 conference record and a 13-4 record overall. But Burnett is following the direction of her head coach, Charlotte Smith, and trying to keep the displays of confidence to a minimum on the court.

Derek Winton's toxicology report reveals cause of death

According to a toxicology report from the NC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Derek Winton's cause of death was drug toxicity involving a combination of 2-Fluorofentanyl, cocaine and alprazolam. The report classifies the manner of death as "accident."

Watching her great aunt struggle to grip the breaks on her walker, Elon University senior Beth Lester decided to create a design that would enhance the accessibility of this mobility aid.  Lester witnessed her great aunt’s loss of mobility from multiple sclerosis and her feelings of frustration with being dependent on a faulty device.

A surprising change: Cignetti arrives at Elon

The phone in Curt Cignetti’s office was ringing regularly once the Indiana University of Pennsylvania football team’s season ended. The sixth-year coach was content with the Crimson Hawks, seeing a future with at least 10 wins a season for the next two years. So he graciously declined each request, taking the time to answer the call but never giving what the person on the other end wanted. But in late December, Cignetti got a call from Elon University.

Elon alumna to open Simply Oak Boutique in downtown Elon

Deaton graduated with double major in accounting and finance and since then has been working in the Phoenix card office, where she is now the business coordinator.

Phoenix gets out to fast start, cruises by Hofstra

It was clear early on that the Elon University men's basketball team was well rested. The Phoenix delivered its best shooting performance of the season and its highest scoring output in three seasons in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) as it romped past Hofstra University 96-80 on Thursday night at Alumni Gym. Sophomore guard Steven Santa Ana stayed hot, pouring in 29 points on 11 of 16 shooting, while sophomore forward Tyler Seibring scored 22 points and sophomore guard Dainan Swoope supplied 18. The victory comes after four days off for the Phoenix, which played four games in eight nights culminating with a Jan. 7 victory over Towson University.
