Students gathered at South Campus on Saturday to get a little messy for a cause. About 500 students signed up for Campus Rec's first annual paint race, running or walking 2K (about 1.3 miles), and getting hit with colored dye at checkpoints along the way. At the end of the race, participants had the opportunity to dye t-shirts, and made sure to take plenty of pictures. Hundreds of people and canines strolled the Burlington City Park Saturday for the some tail-wagging, paw shaking and camera licking fun. It took 91 minutes and 45 seconds of soccer, but the Elon University men’s soccer team was able to beat the 21st ranked Furman University Paladins on senior forward Chris Thomas’ penalty kick less than two minutes into overtime. The win was the third over a nationally ranked team for the Phoenix, who move to 2-0 in Southern Conference play after last weekend’s 2-0 win over Davidson College. The game went back and forth, with several quality scoring chances in each half for each team.
