'No quit' attitude one of many bright spots in Elon's NCAA Tournament loss

LOS ANGELES — Trailing 4-0 against No. 1 UCLA in the second round of the NCAA Tournament as the seconds ticked off the clock, the Elon University men’s soccer team was still fighting to breakup the shutout even with the game well out of reach. In the 88th minute, Elon battled for a corner and while it couldn’t convert and the game ended in the 4-0 shutout, one thing stood out about Elon’s night: there was no quit in the Phoenix. “Quitting is not an option,” said junior forward Jason Waterman.

Elon has no answers, No. 1 UCLA rolls in NCAA Tournament

LOS ANGELES — Clinical. There’s no other word to describe the UCLA men’s soccer team in the second round of the NCAA Tournament against Elon University. The Phoenix outshot the Bruins 12-9 in the contest, but UCLA capitalized on its chances where Elon did not, leading to the 4-0 victory for the Bruins at home in Drake Stadium in Los Angeles Sunday, Nov.

Timeline of the 73 hours between NCAA Tournament games for Elon men’s soccer

At 9:39 p.m. Eastern Time Thursday, Nov. 21, the Elon University men’s soccer team and fans charged the playing surface at Rudd Field in chase of a shirtless Jason Waterman, a junior forward on the team who scored the game-winning penalty kick for the Phoenix just seconds before against Clemson University in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The on-field celebration was all the time allotted for the Phoenix to bask in the team’s first NCAA Tournament victory, a 4-1 penalty kick defeat of the Tigers.

Elon volleyball looks for turnaround in SoCon Tournament

The Elon University volleyball team didn’t have a glamorous end to its regular season, having lost four straight matches, but the Phoenix managed to sneak into the Southern Conference Tournament as the eighth and final seed. Key injuries to junior and sophomore middle blockers Kris Harris and Catherine Head were supposed to ravage Elon’s depth up front, but the emergence of freshman Ally Karle could give the Phoenix a shot at a rebirth in the postseason.

If Elon had been in the Colonial Athletic Association this year...

In May 2013, Elon University President Leo Lambert and Athletic Director Dave Blank announced Elon would transition to the Colonial Athletic Association starting before the 2014-2015 academic year.  If Elon had been a member of the CAA this year, below is how the Phoenix would have compared to the rest of the conference. Elon Men's Soccer The Southern Conference Tournament champions three years running, the men’s soccer team will enter the CAA as what is probably the best equipped Elon athletic team from the fall season.
