Retirement is a long way off for Elon students, but some have already started planning by investing in the stock market. "I like to call it sophisticated gambling," said senior business fellow, Matt Feldman," so you never know what's going to happen." Feldman learned about the stock market during his sophomore year of high school, when he and a friend participated in a DECA stock competition. "We saw that everyone was buying these things called iPods and that a company called Apple produced them," Feldman said.
As the school year winds down and students prepare for graduation, many students are saying goodbye to their Elon experiences. One of these students is Alexis Stones, who founded the Elon a cappella group, Vital Signs, in the spring of her first year along with her friend Ottavia Pomazon. Pomazon and Stones missed the opportunity to audition for a cappella groups in the fall due to a leadership fellows trip, so they had the idea to create their own. Three years later, Pomazon and Stones, along with six other seniors, were singing their final concert with Vital Signs. "It's crazy to see it how far it's come," Stones said. In their spring concert Friday evening May 9, the seniors of Vital Signs performed with the group one last time, and the group released their first EP.
It finally looked like the Elon University baseball team was getting on the right track. The Phoenix led 6-1 after five innings over Furman University May 11 and was close to snapping a five-game losing streak.
Torrential rainfall struck again at this year’s Spring Show, headlined by B.o.B. and The Chainsmokers, but the event planners — the Student Union Board — had to deal with an additional challenge: This year’s show was outside. Though the rainfall did not deter the show from continuing, another issue would arise SUB would not be able to handle.

Vineyard Vines. Brooks Brothers. And now, Coastal Prep. The Connecticut-based Vineyard Vines revitalized the preppy clothing industry by infusing Atlantic seaboard roots with a certain nautical touch — sailboat-embroidered belts and the trademark whale.
You know it’s spring at Elon University when the grass gets greener, the temperature rises and students bring out their paintbrushes, sanders and coolers. From the outside looking in, the sight of students sanding down coolers for hours on a sunny spring day might seem a little odd, but at Elon and other universities, it is commonplace — they are simply preparing for Banquet. It has become the custom that when a student is asked to Banquet, a fraternity’s weekend at the beach, the guest thanks his or her host for the invite by painting him a cooler. Painting coolers, a custom more popular in the South, was a new idea to many Elon students from the North. “People told me first semester about painting coolers, but I had never heard about it before coming to college,” said freshman Emma Haslun.
The Elon University baseball team was scheduled to play more home games this year than any other year since joining the Division I ranks. The Phoenix played 30, going 19-11 in them.

Jason Aryeh, assistant professor of performing arts at Elon University, grew up in what he described as a typical small village in Ghana. “The fact that I grew up in a very different environment and culture is one way that I try to inspire students,” he said.
The Elon University softball team lost its second straight game in Southern Conference Tournament to host University of North Carolina at Greensboro 4-2 May 8 in a consolation bracket game at UNCG Softball Park in Greensboro. There’s a new bar coming to downtown Elon, albeit with a much different flair than West End Terrace or Taphouse. The Oak House, a coffee, wine and craft beer lounge, is slated to take the space on North Williamson Avenue that originally housed Town Table.
From an early age, we're taught that the buddy system is an essential part of going anywhere. Sticking with a buddy ensures you get to your destination safely and have at least one other person with you in case something goes awry. My problem, was wanting to travel somewhere that no one else I knew wanted to go, so I chose to fly solo. I decided to go with a study abroad travel tour, so I wouldn't be completely stranded. I didn't know German all too well, but I knew how to read a map and how to keep my belongings safe, and at the end of the day, that's really all I needed. I enjoyed my time traveling immensely, and I'll sum it up by telling you the perks I've found of traveling alone. Be responsible: Traveling alone has definitely been an exercise in responsibility for me. I traveled with some girls who were staying at the same hostel as me, and they taught me what not to do as a solo traveler. We went out exploring after our already-paid for activities, and I seemed to be the only one who knew how to get back to the hostel without the use of Google maps. They also did not keep track of their passports or room keys, and, as a result, relied on me to let them back into the room. As a solo traveler, I was constantly aware of where my passport, phone, and room key were. I knew I had to be accountable for myself, so I was always prepared in any situation. I was proud of myself for planning ahead, and as a result, I did not have the same snafus that the group I was with had. Embrace your freedom: When you travel alone, you call the shots. You don't have to wait for anyone to leave the bathroom or go anywhere you don't want to, and you can spend all the time you want at places you want to go. I had a blast going to the Munich Olympic Stadium by myself and taking a rooftop tour.
