MEDIA ADVISORY
WHO: Melissa Ohden is the survivor of a failed saline infusion abortion conducted in 1977 (copies of her medical records that document the abortion meant to end her life can be viewed on her website's picture page -www.melissaohden.com/bio). This is a surreal tale of one woman's survival--from the garbage can following an abortion attempt through to eventual acceptance and adoption.
WHAT: Melissa shares her compelling, virtually unbelievable, story with the general public in a "Choices" Conference aimed at fostering dialogue and fueling understanding of a controversial topic through the eyes of a woman who survived a medical procedure designed to end her life. She will offer insights for dealing with the emotional battles resulting from her journey and the path she used to cultivate forgiveness with her birth parents and with society overall.
WHERE: Public presentation to be held on the grounds of Cox Toyota-Scion, 3860 Danbrook Rd, Burlington, NC 27215
WHEN: Saturday, September 13th; presentation begins at 3:30 p.m.
WHY: Society--today's youth and students--continue to grapple with the lively discussions around when life begins and the messages presented by both the pro-choice and pro-life movements.
Melissa tackles tough questions including: how would you deal with the news of being adopted? And what if you learned that you were not only adopted, but you were first aborted and survived, then later given up for adoption? This "Choices" Conference does not raise the flag of "Pro-Life" or "Pro-Choice", rather it is designed to "give a voice to the voiceless". Melissa's story is not just about being an abortion survivor, but offers a powerful and timely story of hope, healing and forgiveness.
MEDIA INTERVIEWS AVAILABLE Saturday, September 13.
