Elon Dining: A year in review with manager Pulkitt Vigg

As Elon University’s dining program winds down its first year under Aramark’s first new manager in 22 years, the staff continues to look to diversify options, such as planned additions of Starbucks and Einstein Bagels slated to open next fall. A focus on theme dinners and special events had differentiated Aramark’s resident district manager Pulkitt Vigg — who started at Elon in July 2014 — time at Aramark from his predecessor’s.

Baseball comeback falls short against Delaware on Senior Day

Pitching struggles dealt the Elon University baseball team an 11-9 loss today on Senior Day. A plethora of offense kept Elon in the game, but the Phoenix could not overcome a five-run deficit going into the bottom of the ninth. From the beginning of the game, it was clear senior starter Jake Stalzer was in for a tough outing.

Late surge by Delaware hands Elon baseball team 10-4 loss

A disappointing sixth inning for senior starter Lucas Bakker led the Elon University baseball team to a 10-4 loss to the University of Delaware. After recording the first out of the top of the sixth, Bakker allowed a single, two walks and two doubles to give the Blue Hens a 6-3 lead. Bakker surrendered six earned runs on 10 hits, three walks and two wild pitches across five and third innings of work.

Tony’s Pubs-N-Subs began vying for a piece of Elon’s shifting bar scene, forcing its competitors have move away from the nightlife, preferring to set themselves apart in a different fashion. West End Terrace’s new ownership has positioned its business as more of a restaurant and less of a bar.

Seniors collect rhythm in final dance thesis

Four years of dance comes to close from May 7-9 with XVcollective, a collaborating dance group, senior thesis concert. The dancers perform original choreography and design created by senior dance performance and choreography.

Softball season ends with 13-2 loss to JMU

When facing two win-or-go-home games at the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament Thursday, the Elon University softball team won the first 8-6 against Towson University. But James Madison University sent Elon home in the second game, ending the season for the Phoenix by a count of 13-2. In the second game, the Dukes scored eight runs in the second inning and five runs in the third, facing four different Elon pitchers in the two innings. Junior Kayla Caruso started the game inthe circle for Elon but left the game with two outs in the second after giving up four runs.

Tony's Pub-N-Subs issued overcrowding citation

The Alamance County Fire Marshal issued a citation to Tony's Pub-N-Subs at 415 W. Haggard Ave for "overcrowding or admittance of any person beyond the approved capacity of a building" on Friday May 1st. The total fine for the citation was $40,500.

Campus sustainability slowed by growth

Though Elon University’s environmental initiatives have earned it praise from a number of its stakeholders, its rapid expansion has encroached on some of its sustainability objectives and challenged it to find ways to reduce emissions as the campus expands and enrollment rises. Between 2008 — the baseline year for carbon emission  measurements — and 2014, Elon added about 670,000 square feet and about 850 students to its campus.

Trainers play vital role in athletic success

Because of NCAA rules and regulations, coaches can only spend a certain amount of time with their players, but there is no restriction on the amount of time players can spend with the training staff. “The two people who spend the most time with a student-athlete on campus are the athletic trainer and the strength coach,” said Eric Storsved, director of athletic training services.
