Elon University Student Government Association announces freshman class election results

11% of the freshman class voted in Elon University Student Government Association elections with a total of 179 ballots cast. Last year, a total of 552 ballots were cast. The results were announced Sept. 12 in Moseley Center.

Elon University hosts first booster clinic of 2022-23 academic year

Elon University will host a booster clinic Sept. 12 from 2 to 6 p.m. in Alumni Gym. Students can sign up to get a Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. In order to get a booster shot, it must be at least two months since the last vaccine dose or booster.

Elon University named No. 1 national university for excellence in undergraduate teaching by U.S. News & World Report for second consecutive year

Elon University is ranked No. 1 for excellence in undergraduate teaching for the second consecutive year by the U.S. News & World Report “Best Colleges” Guide, which released rankings Sept. 12. The university also received a No. 6 ranking in the “Most Innovative,” gaining three spots from last year, and was ranked No. 89 overall among national universities.

Get to know the overnight Elon University staff

It’s 3 a.m. inside Belk Library. Because the building is open all night during weekdays, all the lights remain on. From the first floor, it’s impossible to hear Tammy Wilson, Belk’s overnight janitor, wiping office windows and emptying trash cans on the second and third floors. Even for a library, the silence is overwhelming.

Elon University men’s soccer overcomes Stony Brook in rainy rumble

Even a rainy day at Rudd Field wasn’t enough to deter the Elon University men’s soccer team from getting back in the win column, as it hosted and bested Stony Brook in a 1-0  contest. The win not only propels the Phoenix to a 3-1 record but also makes Elon 1-1 in Colonial Athletic Association Conference play.

Burlington resident Brittany Shaw gives back to the community through what she knows best — baking cookies. She began baking as a way to make money while in nursing school. Now, she owns her own company, Sweet B Cookies. When the COVID-19 pandemic began, she had to close and find another job, but Shaw said as she gets back into business, she never lost sight of her dream.
