Elon can't crack UNCA's defense in loss

The Elon University men's basketball team simply couldn't break into the University of North Carolina at Asheville's defense. UNCA held Elon to its lowest scoring total of the season, as the Phoenix fell 78-67 in non-conference action Tuesday night at Alumni Gym.

Not too far away from nature's escape

It's no ordinary walk in the park at Hanging Rock State Park. The most visited and photographed site is the overarching rock at the peak of the mountains. It's about 2,500 feet high and looks a lot more dangerous than it actually is. The walk up only takes about 45 minutes, but it's a lot of steep hills and rocky terrain. The views and the sanctuary up above make the workout worth it.

ABSS examines redistricting plan

Walking through the main hallway of Cummings High School, Athletic Director Kyle Pycraft stopped and looked at the trophy cases that lined the path. Indented in two long walls near the entrance are modest wooden shelves with protective glass, where years of county and state championship trophies stand shoulder to shoulder. “Strong and successful athletics are a big part of Cummings’ history and culture,” Pycraft said.

Community celebrates Danieley's life at memorial service

About 400 people gathered in Alumni Gym on Saturday afternoon for a memorial service remembering President Emeritus J. Earl Danieley, who died Tuesday at 92. Elon University President Leo Lambert delivered opening remarks, followed by hymns, scripture readings and remembrances.

Town of Elon Police and Elon University campus police share unique bond

The chaos in Columbus, Ohio early Monday morning was a clear reminder to Town of Elon Police Chief Cliff Parker why his staff and the Elon University Police Department rely heavily on each other. In the early stages of the Ohio State University attack that killed one and left seven others hospitalized, both the university and Columbus police departments acted swiftly, throwing away jurisdiction requirements and worked together to solve the problem.

'Elon in my blood': Faye Conally matched brother J. Earl Danieley's commitment to university, community

Faye Conally knows the ins and out of almost every Elon University building like the back of her hand. After following the footsteps of her brother Dr. Emeritus J. Earl Danieley, Conally graduated Elon in 1961 with a degree in secretarial science. “Options for young ladies in those days were so limited that you could be a secretary, a nurse or taking care of children," she said. "I wasn’t ready to settle down, so I took to secretarial science.”
