'We live by the ways of the South': Confederate Memorial Day service held in Graham

GRAHAM — A prayer for the dead opened the Confederate Memorial Day Service hosted by a southern rights organization, Alamance County Taking Back Alamance County (ACTBAC).  The event took place May 10 at the memorial in front of Alamance County’s District Judge building, 7 miles from Elon University’s campus. The memorial was erected to honor those from Alamance County that have died fighting in U.S. conflicts.

Loy Center rock, painted for Alpha Kappa Alpha, vandalized

On Sunday, April 6, the rock in front the Loy Center, which was painted salmon pink and apple green in honor of the Omicron Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s new members presentation, was defaced. Someone unknown to the sorority spray painted over its layer of paint on the rock and scrawled the word “nut.”

Elon University's Director of Campus Safety and Police, Dennis Franks, is leaving his position, according to an email sent to faculty and staff from Gerald Whittington, senior vice president for business, finance and technology.

5K run hosted at Elon to support Molly Offstein's road to recovery

The Jackson 5’s song “ABC” boomed around the intramural fields as Andy Derryberry crossed the finish line as the oldest participant at the “Show Us Your Shoes!” run. The 5K hosted on April 29, was in support of Molly Offstein, a cross country runner who during her freshman year at Elon University was hit by car while on a run last spring.

Saturday, April 28, marked six months since junior engineering major Breslin Wiley passed away. Club baseball honored him by winning its game, retiring his jersey and planting a tree in memory of him.

Nwokeji signs with Steelers

Elon offensive lineman Ikenna Nwokeji just became the 12th Phoenix to sign a contract to the NFL when he signed on with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday, April 28.
