Elon University selects School of Health Sciences dean

Maha Lund will serve as Elon University’s next dean of the School of Health Sciences. After a national search, she was one of three finalists for the position. Lund, doctorate of health sciences from NOVA Southeastern University, will join Elon after serving as the division chief and director of the Physician Assistant Program at Emory University School of Medicine.

OPINION: Affirmative action is much-needed policy

The college application and admissions procedures are stressful for almost every high school upperclassman; introducing anxieties over the many different necessities that go into the decision-making process. This struggle is often amplified for students of color; whilst most students struggle with primarily school-related issues such as grades and making the most of their college essays, many students of color must account for the possible discrimination they may encounter in the process based on their names or even their socioeconomic status.

Elon University Surtal creates community on campus

When Elon University junior Shriya Baru joined Surtal, she hoped to meet new people and explore her Indian culture. Surtal helped Shriya establish connections with others who share similar beliefs. Surtal is Elon’s first Bollywood-fusion dance club and began in the fall of 2021. The club gives members the opportunity to learn about various Indian dance festivals. Members have performed at the Festival of Lights and Luminaries, the Festival of Colors and World Dance Day.

Vice President addresses importance of small businesses, community lenders

Community lending initiatives are grassroots movements to connect communities to economic opportunities, according to Senior Vice President of the Latino Community Credit Union Vicky Garcia — but for places like Alamance County, they are few and far between. The LCCU is a community development financial institution with a primary mission to provide local communities with ethical financial products and education to “empower and ensure” economic opportunity for all, according to its mission statement. The first branch opened in 2000 and in 2020 exceeded $594 million in assets.

Elon University students prepare for internship, job searches

From freshmen starting to navigate the professional world to seniors preparing for post-graduate opportunities, understanding how to navigate the application process can make all the difference in landing an internship. “That doesn’t mean they need to start seeking out an internship right away,” Amber Moser, director of internships in the School of Communications, said. “Planning for it and researching and putting the pieces in place to be successful in your first year is really beneficial, particularly if students are double majoring, depending on the kind of double major they have.”

En esta escuela, la mayoru00eda de los alumnos comen gratis: sin formularios, sin pagos y sin preguntas. Para muchos, esta puede ser la comida mu00e1s segura que reciben en todo el du00eda. El Distrito Escolar de Alamance-Burlington cuenta con 28 escuelas que participan en el Programa de Elegibilidad Comunitaria (CEP), como la Escuela Primaria Harvey R. Newlin. El CEP es un programa que permite a las escuelas de zonas de bajos ingresos ofrecer desayuno y almuerzo gratuitos a todos los estudiantes sin necesidad de solicitar comidas gratuitas o a precio reducido.
