Ground breaks on biggest investment project in Burlington history

The ground officially broke Feb. 16 at the new distribution center location for Ahold Delhaize USA, the parent company of the grocery store chain, Food Lion. Located near the border of Alamance and Guilford counties, construction has begun on the $860 million project.

Elon alum details the experiences of fatherhood in children's book ‘We Love you ForAva!’

For Jeffrey and Corddarryl Williamson-Rose, adoption was an option they were considering months before their wedding. They debated other ways to grow their family, but after getting married in September 2022, they began the adoption process. The Williamson-Roses’ adoption journey began with a home study, a procedure where a social worker ensures the parents hoping to adopt are fit to care for and provide for a child.

Online apparel store files to dissolve after Elon trademark infringement lawsuit

Elon University has filed a federal lawsuit against a Washington-based online apparel seller, alleging that it is infringing on its trademarks. After the suit was filed by Elon on Feb. 11, the company began the process of winding down operations on Feb. 13, according to articles of dissolution filed with the Washington Secretary of State.

Elon University Truitt Center hosts Ripple Interfaith Conference for 10th year

The Elon University Truitt Center hosted its annual weekend-long Ripple Interfaith conference from Feb.13 to Feb. 15 in Numen Lumen, where students and visitors from other colleges, such as Queens University of Charlotte and Texas Christian University, were able to participate in various activities, such as an art project and attend breakout sessions happening around Elon University’s campus.

Former Elon professor files wrongful termination lawsuit against university

Former Elon professor of accounting Ray Knight has filed a federal lawsuit against Elon University, alleging the university retaliated against him for whistleblowing, wrongfully denied him tenure, wrongfully terminated his employment and violated both federal whistleblower protections and North Carolina public policy. The lawsuit was filed Feb. 6 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina.

Mother, daughter continue family legacy in Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated

Cameko Proctor did not always know whether her daughter, Elon senior Maleah Proctor, would join Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. For both women, Maleah’s membership was more than crossing into a Divine Nine organization. It was a family legacy, passed down through generations.

In just three weeks in January, Elon professor of sociology Raj Ghoshal takes his students through 500 years of history, focusing on the Black freedom struggle. Ghoshal said his course, SOC 3300: The Long Civil Rights Movement, helps students recognize the longevity of the fight for civil rights.

Southeast Alamance High School remains undefeated with senior night win

The Southeast Alamance High School girl’s basketball team kept its undefeated season alive with a 54-44 victory over the Eastern Alamance Eagles on Senior Night. The teams entered the game having won 22 and 17 games, respectively. Throughout the first three quarters, the Eagles managed to keep pace with Southeast Alamance until the Stallions used a 12-6 fourth quarter to pull away.

Elon University leadership fellows connect to history during Disarming Injustice course

Each year, the sophomore cohort for the Elon Isabella Cannon Leadership Fellows takes a trip to Alabama during the Winter Term, visiting places with deep American history and relevance, including landmarks of the Civil Rights Movement such as the Edmund Pettus Bridge, the Equal Justice Initiative Legacy Museum and the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute.

Elon University student musicians share their passions across campus, beyond

For Elon students, Nailah Ware and Xie Atkinson, a love for music began during childhood. Now, both share their music, passion and lived experiences on and off campus. The two artists seek opportunities on and off campus, including in the music production and recording arts department, in on campus clubs such as Limitless and Limelight Records, performing in off-campus shows and releasing music to streaming platforms.

Elon University celebrates 100 years of Black history

Students, faculty, staff and members from the Elon Black Alumni Network gathered together for the Center for Race, Ethnicity and Diversity Education’s Black History Month Kickoff and Black Table Talk event. Around 100 people united together in the McBride Gathering Space, inside the Truitt Center, to discuss the theme for the night, “History In The Making: Roots, Routes, and Resistance.”

North Carolina Supreme Court prepares for 2026 Election

The North Carolina Supreme Court is preparing to have another election in 2026. Democratic incumbent Anita Earls and Representative Sarah Stevens will be facing off in Nov. for the court seat. This election comes after Republican candidate Jefferson Griffin didn’t concede the 2024 Supreme Court race to Democratic incumbent Allison Riggs until May 2025, after a six-month legal battle.
