When junior Jonathan Deaton received his $5000 prize from the Nukebusters Short Film Contest, he was, justifiably, overwhelmed. His short film, titled "Joining the Conversation," was about the blurry relationship between millennials and their knowledge of nuclear weapons and development.

Local museum brings civil rights back to life

GIBSONVILLE- History came alive this weekend at the Charlotte Hawkins Brown Museum, where a new exhibit displays how America's past civil rights issues resonate in the modern day--and how they directly affect us. The museum is dedicated to Charlotte Hawkins Brown, who was known for her work as an educator of an all black school.

Amendment to HB 318 could keep local ID program running

A new amendment added to House Bill 318 could quell some of the concerns local law enforcement officers had regarding ID cards. As Elon Local News reported on Monday, the controversial HB 318, the Protect North Carolina Workers Act, is a bill to make stricter rules for employers that are verifying whether or not their employees can legally work in North Carolina.

Hurricane Joaquin forces postponement of soccer matches

The impending rain coming from Hurricane Joaquin has forced postponements of matches for both the Elon University men's and women's soccer teams this weekend. The next match for the women's team is 7 p.m. Monday at Francis Marion University. The men will not be in action again until 7 p.m. Oct. 10, against Lipscomb University.
