Two Elon records fall at Virginia Challenge

In the final weekend of the regular season, a pair of school records were broken by the Elon women’s track and field team. Competing at the Virginia Challenge at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va., May 9-10, senior Allyson Oram and sophomore Tereza Novotna rewrote the record books.

Elon football players injured in altercation

Three Elon University football players were injured in a fight which occurred just hours after Elon’s spring game last weekend. Early in the morning of Sunday, April 27, senior quarterback Mike Quinn, senior linebacker Jonathan Spain and junior defensive back Hatchel Linens sustained injuries from an altercation at 203 W. College Ave. in Elon.

Spring game in rearview, Elon football pushes forward

The scoreboard might have said “White 16, Maroon 7,” but for the Elon University football team, the annual spring game April 26 in Rhodes Stadium was a mile marker on the road to the 2014 season. Members of Elon’s defense forced four turnovers in the game, one in which the offense failed to score a touchdown.

Elon golf reflects on year of change

The 2013-14 Elon University golf season was defined by a sense of newness. For the men’s program, the season marked the first in 41 years without Bill Morningstar as head coach. Former University of South Carolina assistant coach Don Hill was called upon to fill the shoes of the 1964 Elon alumnus. The women’s program, on the other hand, saw a crop of new, young players as the primary contributors in winning a pair of tournaments. With the year of adjustment in the rearview mirror, both coaches said the future is bright for their programs.

Elon women's tennis draws No. 1 Georgia in NCAAs

The Elon University women’s tennis team learned its destination and first round opponent for the upcoming NCAA Tournament April 29. The Phoenix (15-8), making its first ever trip to the tournament, will visit the University of Georgia Bulldogs (21-4) at 4 p.m. May 9 in Athens, Ga.

Elon track places third at SoCon meet

Behind six individual conference titles, Elon University women’s track and field recorded its highest finish ever at the Southern Conference Championship meet. Elon placed third out of 11 teams at the meet with a final score of 131 points April 26-27 in Spartanburg, S.C.

White defeats Maroon in Elon spring game

In a game that lacked an offensive touchdown, team White defeated team Maroon in the Elon University spring football game 16-7, Saturday April 26. Three field goals by sophomore kicker John Gallagher, from 29, 27 and 48 yards proved to be the difference in the game.

Elon football prepares for spring game

With the first set of spring practices under new head coach Rich Skrosky’s tenure winding down, the Elon University football team is preparing for its annual spring game. The contest, set for 6 p.m. Saturday April 26 inside of Rhodes Stadium will pit the maroon team against the white team to cap off the spring season.
