Many states, including North Carolina, are preparing to receive COVID-19 vaccine supplies, as Pfizer works to meet Food and Drug Administration expectations for emergency use on its vaccine. Planning for vaccine distribution in North Carolina is being done in four phases — zero through three — according to the 148-page distribution plan outlined by the NC Vaccination Planning Team. There is also a four-phase plan for who gets distributed the vaccine.

With 52.53% of the vote, Amy Galey won North Carolina’s 24th Senate District in the 2020 election. But to represent the people of District 24 in Raleigh, Galey will no longer maintain her seat on the Alamance County Board of Commissioners. The Alamance County GOP executive board will vote on a candidate to finish the remaining two years of Galey’s term in January, according to Chairman of the Alamance County GOP Ben York.

Six candidates battled for three open seats on the Alamance County Board of Commissioners. Three Republican candidates — Bill Lashley, John Paisley and Pamela Thompson — and three Democrats — Bob Byrd, Dreama Caldwell and Kristen Powers — all campaigned in the 2020 race. Only three will have seats on the board.

The Board of Aldermen passed the Elon University major development plan at the regular session on Oct. 13. Board members also passed a water-sewer connection and sewer only connection policies as well as amendments to the town of Elon code of ordinances and the holiday display policy.

Elon University President Connie Book addressed the Board of Aldermen regarding a university proposal to temporarily close East Haggard Ave at the agenda setting meeting on Monday. The proposal submitted by the university suggested using the street to increase outdoor space for recreational and educational purposes. Book also said safety concerns are another reason to close the street, citing the pro-Trump parade that drove through campus as well as the shooting outside of Elon’s Chabad house last fall in her public comment.
