Elon escapes Penn State in opening day victory

Up by 10 heading into the eighth inning it looked like the Elon baseball team would coast to victory in its season opener against Penn State Friday evening, but it came down to the last pitch, as the Nittany Lions scored nine runs over the final two innings and the Phoenix escaped Latham Park with a 16-15 win. "It was a win no matter how it looks," Elon first baseman Casey Jones said.

Late surge from Elon not enough to top UNCW

A last second surge from the Elon Women's Basketball was not enough as the Phoenix fell to UNCW 86-82 on Thursday night. Elon trailed for much of the game, but was able to pull it within striking distance with moments to go.

Elon losing streak reaches five games as Phoenix fall in Williamsburg

A long two week stretch of losing continued for the Elon Men's Basketball team as the Phoenix fell for the fifth consecutive game, 58-77 on the road Wednesday night against William and Mary. Elon (11-15, 3-10) has dropped nine of its last ten games and sits only above College of Charleston in the CAA standings. William & Mary (16-8, 10-3) got out in front early, scoring 42 points in the first half.

Legendary North Carolina basketball coach dies at age 83

Former University of North Carolina head basketball coach, Dean Smith, died Saturday evening in Chapel Hill at age 83. "Coach Dean Smith passed away peacefully the evening of February 7 at his home in Chapel Hill, and surrounded by his wife and five children," said the Smith family in a statement.

Elon comeback falls short against Drexel

A last-minute comeback attempt fell just short for the Elon University men's basketball team as the Phoenix pulled within three with seconds remaining but couldn't finish off in a 67-63 loss to Drexel at Alumni Gym on Thursday night. Sweet-shooting Northeastern drops Elon under .500

BOSTON-- A strong offensive performance by the duo of Zach Stahl and Scott Eatherton and a hot shooting hand by the rest the Northeastern University men's basketball team led the Huskies to a big 80-61 win over Elon University on Saturday night in Boston. Stahl and Eatherton combined to score 35 points on 16-of-18 shooting and Northeastern made 60 percent of its shots on the night to give Elon its sixth loss in the last seven games. With the win, the Huskies improve to 15-8 (7-3 CAA) and while the Phoenix drops to 11-12 (3-7 CAA). A 16-3 run heading into halftime propelled Northeastern to a 15 point halftime advantage, a deficit Elon was unable to overcome.

Elon pulls out win over Northeastern in overtime thriller

It was a roller coaster of a game for the Elon Women's Basketball team, as it needed overtime to overcome a strong second half from Northeastern to escape Alumni Gym with a 80-77 win on Sunday afternoon. The two teams were tied at 68 points after regulation, but four points from Shay Burnett and two Zora Stephenson three-pointers put the Phoenix in the lead.
