Beards into Bucks

As their beards grew, so did the donations. For the newly clean-shaven brothers of Kappa Sigma at Elon University, No Shave November was a serious endeavor. The fraternity recently took a strict no-shaving policy to the extreme to visibly demonstrate their fight against prostate cancer, raising more than $20,000 in the process through Movember, an organization that benefits the Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG.

Elon is our school, but are we our school's keeper?

The Elon University honor pledge states, "On my honor, I will uphold the values of Elon University: honesty, integrity, responsibility, respect." The university's website states this applies not only on campus, but "in locations and at events not occurring on campus," "in locations abroad" and "in situations involving technology as a means of recording or communication." Essentially, wherever you go, you represent Elon.

It has not been an easy year. It hasn't been easy on our campus, on this nation or on the world. We have an economy still dragging its feet, a government that hasn't accomplished as much as we hoped but still declared cafeteria pizza a vegetable and a population fed up and rioting in cities across the country.

A runner's Christmas wishlist

Runner or non-runner, black Friday is a chaotic mess of people, sale signs, and choices.  Do I want the dress or the skirt?  Dress.  Do I want the lacey dress or sparkly dress?  Sparkle (always).  ….what about new make-up?  Or should I spend that money on a new Chi to straighten my hair? This year, I was efficient in making decisions, and I left the mall with my wallet a little skinnier and my bags stuffed more than my stomach was the day before. I was content, planning out my holiday outfits for the next two weeks…until I passed the running store.  That’s when regret and guilt hit. Why hadn’t I stopped here first?!  I felt like I was cheating on running with cute clothes…and I wear running clothes every day.  I willed myself to keep walking, but I couldn’t resist the urge to step inside. Instantly, I wished I had saved some money for the shoes, clothes, and accessories in the store. That’s why I made my 2011 running Christmas wish list that I am sharing with you today…runners and friends of runners take note-these presents may be perfect for you or your running friend! 1.

U.S. House passes SAVE America Act, Senate to consider it soon

The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act was passed by the United States House of Representatives by a vote of 218-213 on Feb. 11, with one Democrat breaking party lines to vote to pass the bill. The bill will now be considered by the Senate, where it needs 60 votes to pass before going to President Donald Trump’s desk for his signature.
