Elon University's Board of Trustees approved the 2012-2013 fiscal year budget Feb. 14 and determined the cost of tuition for the upcoming academic year. There will be a 3.99 percent increase, and tuition will cost $28,633. Room, board and fees for a typical undergraduate student are set to $9,827, according to an e-net article. Gerald Whittington, senior vice president for business, finance and technology, confirmed these figures with The Pendulum. The increase in tuition represents the smallest dollar increase since the 2004-2005 fiscal year.

Tuition for Elon University School of Law is set at $36,100 and tuition for the interactive media master's program costs $32,485. Tuition for the doctor of physical therapy and new physician assistant program studies are both set at $32,135.

The increased price allows for the creation of 12 new full-time faculty positions so that the university can maintain the 13-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio and an increase in salary for lower-paid staff. The budget provides for an expansion of study abroad programs and further development of the Student Professional Development Center, currently located in Moseley.
