Kelly Clarkson does yet another cover (yawn)

Kelly Clarkson recently covered Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” at a concert in Toronto, and though most of the Internet is freaking out over it, we’re not. This is the third song Kelly has covered in the last week (first came Nick Jonas’ “Jealous,” then N Sync’s “Bye Bye Bye”), and while we appreciated Kelly’s surprising cover choices, this has officially gotten old. Hey, Kelly, we get it. You’re great at covers.

Elon graduate students pursuing their master's in gifted education led the Flex Program, a week long camp for gifted kids in the community. Glenda Crawford teaches master's level education classes at Elon and is the director of the Flex Program.

Swift surrenders

Monday night, a twitter feud broke out between Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj. The back-and-forth tweets began when Nicki wasn’t too happy that her video, “Anaconda,” wasn't nominated for Video of the Year at this year’s Video Music Awards (VMAs). Loyal fans to both Taylor and Nicki got involved, as well as Taylor’s biggest enemy — Katy Perry.

Chris Brown finds himself in some trouble

Chris Brown is currently stuck in the Philippines because of a contract dispute. Chris was supposed to leave on his private jet Wednesday morning and head to Hong Kong for a concert, but he was stopped at Manila’s international airport. According to cnn.com, “The Philippine Department of Justice said that an order had been issued Tuesday night to stop any attempts by Brown, 26, to leave the country.” Chris owes promoters money after he failed to appear last New Year’s Eve for a scheduled appearance.

North Carolinians rate public schools poorly in new Elon Poll

As K-12 students across North Carolina prepare for their winter break, the Elon University Poll released poll data on Dec. 17 finding that most North Carolinians gave mediocre or poor grades to public schools across the state. “The states have always had deep authority on education, but there has been more federal involvement in various years,” Director of the Elon University Poll Jason Husser said. “So we thought, well, this is the time for us to really look in depth about what do people think about North Carolina schools.”

Grief, loss support group provides comfort for Elon faculty, staff

Elon University associate chaplain Rev. Julie Tonnesen said loss and grief are universal emotions, but found that they can be difficult for faculty and staff to process while continuing their usual routines. “Even when we show up to work, that doesn’t mean that we get to put the rest of our lives on the back burner,” Tonnesen said. “Our grief comes with us. It’s not something we can just keep on a shelf at home.” In collaboration with Counseling Services, the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life, began offering a monthly group for faculty and staff to support those affected by loss.
