Imam blasts misconceptions about Islam at Real Talk session

No question was off-limits to those gathered in Moseley Center’s Oak Room for “Some Real Talk with the Imam,” which invited members of the Elon community to receive clarification on common misconceptions about Islam. The event, hosted by Better Together, also offered a space for students to learn about the history and theology of the religion from Imam Abdullah Antepli, Muslim chaplain at Duke University. “It is the social homework of Americans to understand Islam as a religion and to understand Muslims as people,” Antepli said. More than 5,000 people attended a rally and barbeque supporting Pat McCrory the Republican candidate for governor Friday night in Smithfield, N.C. The event, held at a Central Tobacco Exchange, Inc. warehouse, featured appearances by major North Carolina Republican politicians and headlined New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. "We're gonna have a Carolina comeback and it starts tonight," McCrory, the former mayor of Charlotte, told the enthusiastic crowd. Festivals continue despite economic situation in Spain

BARCELONA - Spain has been combating an economic recession and a 25 percent unemployment rate the past four years, and the end is nowhere in sight. Weekly transportation strikes and marches protesting high tax rates have erupted across the country. On September 25, 6,000 protestors stormed the Spanish Parliament in Madrid demanding for an end to austerity measures and for the resignation of Spain’s central conservative government.

Tomato farms in Immokalee, Fla. and throughout the state are grounds for modern day slavery and human trafficking, said Rabbi Jill Jacobs, executive director of Rabbis for Human Rights-North America. OPINION: AI poster competition proves Elon has entered AI psychosis

Elon University’s School of Communications and Love School of Business held the “Make Your Mark” artificial intelligence poster competition. The first of its kind on campus, the event drew the attention and ire of art and communications students. It featured a $650 prize pool and was held in three parts: a training session March 31, the competition April 2 and the award ceremony April 3. The outrage lasted the entire week. Has Elon entered an AI psychosis?

Assistant Professor of Music Theatre Jacob Brent is reconnecting with the musical that launched his Broadway career. Decades after his debut in “Cats,” he is returning to the whimsical world as a member of the producing team for its newest revival, “CATS: The Jellicle Ball,” opening on Broadway April 7.
