Chick-fil-A To Remain At Elon

After months of deliberation, the Board of Trustees has elected for Chick-fil-A to remain on campus after reviewing a report submitted by the Vendor Policy Committee. The committee was formed in November 2012, after controversy arose over Chick-fil-A's presence in Octagon Cafe in the Moseley Center. The original petition to remove the restaurant from campus was filed by Spectrum, an LGBTQ advocacy group, after Chick-fil-A President and COO Dan Cathy made controversial statements regarding same-sex marriage in June 2012 on a Christian talk show. "Well, guilty as charged," Cathy said, when asked about his opposition to same-sex marriage.

More Than Just Research

For the last two years, Senior Erica Schenhals has been doing scientific research on breast cancer cells, watching them bond and double in quantity. "It's $450 dollars to buy those cells so you get a million cells for that much," she said. Her Lumen Prize research grant financially supported her research on alternative treatments to battle breast cancer.

Elon students, war veterans and ROTC cadets gathered to play kickball this past Saturday. The tournament raised money for "Paws and Stripes," a nonprofit organization that rescues dogs and helps train them to be service dogs for war veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

The funky vibes of Yardbird Kitchen on South Church Street will hit you square in the face the second you open the door and smell sweet pastries baking in the back. From the offbeat pictures hanging on the walls to the Edison chandelier in the back corner, the atmosphere of this new restaurant is bringing something original to the Burlington restaurant scene. There is no shortage of restaurants in Burlington, but many of them are large fast food chains that do not offer diverse options.

Who doesn’t love a shout-out from @ElonGDIProblems addressing Jesus as “Everyone’s favorite GDI”? There are tons of anonymous Twitter accounts focused on Elon University’s campus culture, and, let’s face it, they’re witty and entertaining and we probably scroll a little slower when a tweet from @ElonConfessions appears on our feed. Last month, @Elon_Black_Prob tweeted, “Just because the professor mentioned diversity doesn’t mean you all stop writing typing and texting to look at the lone black person.” Two weeks ago, @TheElonGay tweeted, “Stop what you’re doing and go pet the cats/bunnies/puppies outside Moseley!

Elon's Alpha Psi Omega produces Shakespeare’s plays with a hilarious twist

Plays with the word “Shakespeare” in the title typically scare students away, but the acting students in Elon University’s theatre honor society, Alpha Psi Omega, put a humorous spin on the classic Shakespeare plays with “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged).” “It’s one of the funniest shows I’ve ever done,” said Sean Liang, a senior BFA acting major.

Elon University, Go Baby Go modify cars for children with mobility challenges

Elon University’s Innovation Hall was filled with the high-pitched hums of electric motors and the sounds of childhood play April 4. The noises came from the first Go Baby Go program at Elon, where the community takes standard electric toy cars and adapts them for children who cannot traditionally operate one.
