Year after year, men’s spring fashion is synonymous with bright button-down shirts and expressive pastel pants. The clothing styles and colors are here to stay, leaving shoes constantly looked over and men often defaulting to the classic loafer. However, spring 2013 has some promising alternatives that perfectly compliment those colored pants you’ve been waiting to wear.

The relatively recent rise of the TOMS empire should not go unnoticed. Simply put, TOMS offer a subtle and very stylish option for men and the footwear comes in a vast array of colors and patterns. The shoes are mostly cloth and the stand-by pair from the company is slip on, however they now offer an extensive list of boots and sneakers. For this spring, TOMS has introduced faded denim boots, though they are much closer to high-top sneakers. The boots are grey, with multi-colored stripes as an alternative, which perfectly compliment a graphic tank top and any colored shorts.

Brown buckskin shoes are a wonderful choice that pair with almost any color. Aldo’s Tadd high-tops are tasteful and new with a buckskin body and rubber sole. The shoes can be paired with cuffed corduroy pants and a bright colored t-shirt or polo. Guys, a good rule of thumb when choosing shoes is to look for neutral colors and warm browns because each compliments vibrant tops and bottoms without creating a distraction.

The sneaker boom on the men’s fashion scene has produced several nice options in case brown is not the desired color. “Jack Purcell” sneakers are a moderately priced option, mostly hovering near $50, that has black canvas bodies and rubber soles. The shoes have simple lines, making them much less of a statement piece and more complimentary footwear.
