Cherished alumnus Rev. John G. Truitt Jr. passes at 81

Rev. John G. Truitt Jr., a graduate in the class of 1953, died Saturday at the age of 81. He died after a long battle with illness, according to Elon University Communications. A celebration of Truitt's life will be held at the Elon Community Church Monday at 2 p.m.

Rev. John G. Truitt, distinguished Elon alumnus, died today at age 81. Truitt graduated from Elon in 1953 and died after a lengthy illness, according to an E-Net article. The Truitt family has been involved in Elon and its religious life since the early 1900s.

Bears take risk, make Cutler quarterback of the future

The clamoring for Josh McCown can stop.  Jay Cutler is the Chicago Bears’ quarterback of the future. Cutler has signed a seven-year, $128 million contract that will pay him an average of $18 million per year over the first three years, including $54 million guaranteed, Bears general manager Phil Emery announced Thursday, Jan.

Elon Loses to Duke 86-48 in New Year's Eve Matchup

Though Elon came to the Greensboro Coliseum hoping to celebrate an end-of-year win, the Phoenix lost to the Duke Blue Devils with a final score of 86-48. Elon started the game with Lucas Troutman winning the tip-off and giving Elon the first possession, and senior Sebastian Koch followed up by scoring the first two points for Elon at 17:40.

Study abroad options to expand, focus on 'nontraditional' destinations

Elon will launch eight new study abroad programs next fall to expand its options for students. The new programs, known as SIT-affiliates, were introduced to students last month at a College Coffee table hosted by the Global Education Center (GEC). Paul Geis, the associate director of study abroad, said the final list of SIT programs took several years to cement. “The model and philosophy resonates with Elon students and experiences,” he said.

Elon University students prepare for internship, job searches

From freshmen starting to navigate the professional world to seniors preparing for post-graduate opportunities, understanding how to navigate the application process can make all the difference in landing an internship. “That doesn’t mean they need to start seeking out an internship right away,” Amber Moser, director of internships in the School of Communications, said. “Planning for it and researching and putting the pieces in place to be successful in your first year is really beneficial, particularly if students are double majoring, depending on the kind of double major they have.”
