Davidson College put the realignment wheels in motion again Tuesday May 7. Several buildings on Elon's campus lost power at approximately 2:30 p.m as a result of power outages in Alamance County. Duke Energy told ELN there were two power outages in Alamance County that affected 2200 customers. Most buildings at Elon affected by the outages were west of North O' Kelly Ave., the Francis Center, the Danieley Center and South Campus, according to an email from Dean of Student Life Smith Jackson. Dr. Jackson said there isn't a timetable for the restoration of power.
For the final time in the 2013 regular season, the Elon University baseball team went on the road, this time to Appalachian State University in Boone to take on the Mountaineers. While Sunday’s rubber match of the series was rained out, the Phoenix split the first two games of the series with Appalachian State in dropping game one 9-1 but escaping game two with a 10-8 victory behind five perfect inning from senior starting pitcher Kyle Webb. Scoreless through the first three and a half inning Friday in game one, the Mountaineers broke through in the bottom of the fourth against senior starting pitcher Spencer Medick when freshman second baseman Dillon Dobson grounded out to second base with the bases loaded. Appalachian State got another run in the fifth inning when senior outfielder Will Callaway hit a sacrifice fly to right field. Trailing 2-0, the wheels came off and the Mountaineers chased Medick from the game with a seven run sixth inning.
It was just another day at the office for junior center fielder Carleigh Nester. With her Elon University softball team tied against the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in the eighth inning on Sunday May 5, Nester launched a walk-off sacrifice fly to give the Phoenix a 4-3 extra-inning win over the Lady Mocs. The win capped off a three game sweep, the first Southern Conference sweep of the year for Elon.
