Review of Carolina Rebellion 2013: While third time was not the charm, participants not discouraged

For the third year, Carolina Rebellion, a North Carolina rock festival, returned to Charlotte May 4-5 at the Motor Speedway in Concord. But some might say Carolina Rebellion could not compare to the notoriety and organization of other festivals in North Carolina, such as MerleFest, and across the nation, such as Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza. From the beginning of the day, fans were worried about whether the show would pull through, considering the first artist on the lineup, Nonpoint, cancelled.

Burlington’s Studio 1 is ‘So much more than real life’

The arts can provide an outlet for people to express their inner emotions, struggles and triumphs. In the words of Tami Kress, the founder of Burlington’s new Studio 1, “They allow people the opportunity to collaborate and to work together and to create.” Kress started Studio 1 in April of last year.

Review: Elon Electric Ensemble brings “Thriller” to Elon

On May 2, just a few weeks before finals at Elon University, around 100 students and community members took a break and came out to McCrary Theatre to hear the music of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” album, as performed by the Elon Electric Ensemble, also known as E3. Todd Coleman, associate professor of music, founded the group in fall of 2008 as a performance outlet for students in the music technology program.

Davidson jumps to Atlantic 10, Elon next to leave SoCon?

Davidson College put the realignment wheels in motion again Tuesday May 7. With the private school’s move to the Atlantic 10 Conference starting in the 2014-2015 school year, the Southern Conference seems to be falling apart again. Though conference commissioner John Iamarino made his best attempt to save the conference following the departure of Appalachian State University and Georgia Southern University in March, Davidson leaving points to Elon being the next piece to fall. Prior to Davidson’s departure, the SoCon was comprised of nine schools – five private and four public.

Elon walks off over North Carolina A&T

No Mike Kennedy, no problem. The Elon University head baseball coach missed Tuesday night's game against North Carolina A&T State University due to an ejection last week, but the Phoenix still managed to pull out an 8-7 win over the visiting Aggies. The win did not come easy for Elon.

Changes coming to Greek Accreditation

To be recognized by Greek life at Elon, fraternities and sororities need to go through a new accreditation process. According to the Office of Greek Life, the program will evaluate organizations on three different performance levels: baseline, maroon or gold.
