Elon men's basketball announces staff promotions, new hire

In light of former associate head coach Tim Sweeney leaving last month, Elon University men's basketball coach has promoted some assistants and hired a new director of basketball operations. Assistants Jack Wooten and Monty Sanders were promoted to top assistant positions, and Chris Long, formerly the director of basketball operations, was promoted to an assistant coach.

Students evacuate Oaks apartment building after lightning strike

Update: As of 5 p.m. Thursday Sept. 4, Oaks E residents were allowed back into their apartments. For the three apartments that were water damaged during the lightning strike, Director of Elon Residence Life Elaine Turner said in an email that the university is working with those residents to find temporary housing.

Town of Elon, university move a step closer to rezoning

The latest step of the Town of Elon and Elon University’s ambitious joint makeover fell into place Tuesday, as the Board of Aldermen’s zoning committee found in favor of four rezoning requests to permit taller, mixed-used buildings downtown and in the surrounding area. The committee’s approval will bring the matter before the Board of Aldermen next week for an official vote. The fourth, and largest, motion applied to the eight-block area of downtown Elon bordered by Williamson, W.

Give me just a little more time

Not only are students in high school dealing with acne, first crushes and relationships, as well as drastic changes to their bodies, they are also thrown into a new academic and social environment.  In case that was not enough to deal with, during their senior year they have to decide where they want to spend the next four years of their lives studying. As a current senior in college, I look back and realize I could have used a little more time to figure out what I wanted from my college experience.

Raising Rescues: Local barn saves foal trio

Last spring, when Chance, Belle and Blue were loaded off of the horse-trailer that carried them 11 hours, from Last Chance Corral’s headquarters in Ohio to HighClere Farms in Burlington, it was clear the foals had been through a lot, especially 6 day-old Blue. Within 24 hours, Blue needed a catheter to pump fluids into his tiny, frail body.
