Help U Store It comes to Elon, an alternative storage method for summer

Finding a place to store belongings for three months over the summer can be tough. That's why Elon junior Sean Barry co-founded Help U Store It with his three brothers. "What the idea of the company is, you are going to pack up your stuff in our boxes and we will pick it up from your dorm we'll store it for the summer in our storage facilities and then we will redeliver it to your new dorm come 3 months after the summer," Barry said. Barry and his brothers started the company four years ago in Pennsylvania and provided the service to various schools in the area.

Elon baseball loses rubber game 8-3 at College of Charleston

A critical error and five-run bottom of the sixth inning led the College of Charleston Cougars baseball team to an 8-3 win against the Elon University Phoenix on Sunday. After handing the Cougars their first loss in the Colonial Athletic Association on Saturday, the Phoenix found itself in an early three-run deficit. Elon senior Lucas Bakker had a rough start to the game by allowing a walk, a double and a single to the top of the order in the bottom of the first inning to put the Phoenix in a quick 1-0 hole.

Softball has high hopes for rest of year after beating Delaware

Having improved its record to 25-13 (7-5 Colonial Athletic Association) after an important series win against the University of Delaware Blue Hens, the Elon University softball team has high hopes for the remainder of the season. “I am very pleased with the growth of our team at this point,” head coach Kathy Bocock said, “This team has matured through the season by helping each other through adversity with lots of schedule changes.” Elon currently sits in third place in the CAA but has had its share of obstacles in the process of climbing the leaderboard. Inclement weather forced the Phoenix to reschedule several games, often at inconvenient times.

Elonthon raises more than $180,000 FTK

More than 1,400 students — approximately 25 percent of Elon University’s student body — participated in the 12th annual Elonthon dance marathon, raising $180,068.58 for Duke Children’s Hospital and Health Center. “This number represents more than just a number.  It represents hope, and it represents Elon, and it represents the kind culture that we’re trying to cultivate here of selflessness and philanthropy,” said Elonthon’s Executive Director Kaylyn Weller when the total was revealed.

Update: Rosales' condition continues to improve

Elon first-year Gabriela Rosales' is now able to breathe without a ventilator at UNC Hospital, four weeks after getting hit by a car while walking across North Williamson in Elon. Her CaringBridge site, which her family uses to give updates on Rosales' condition, also says the tube that monitors her inter-cranial pressure has been removed. The latest post on the site, which came Sunday morning, states Rosales now opens her eyes and blinks and appears to be gaining strength by moving her arms and legs. Rosales' parents, Carmencita and Roberto, are with Rosales at UNC Hospital from Nicaragua. Elon University faculty and staff, including Associate Chaplain for Catholic Life Gerry Waterman and University Chaplain Jan Fuller have been visiting Rosales over the past few weeks. Here on campus, Rosales is a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority.

Baseball hands No. 26 College of Charleston first CAA loss

After losing Friday's series opener at the College of Charleston 11-3, the Elon University baseball ended the Cougars' 10-0 undefeated record in Colonial Athletic Association play with a 4-1 win on Saturday. The Phoenix offense developed a rhythm in the second and third innings by collecting four runs on five hits. Senior center fielder Quinn Bower put Elon on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning with an RBI single to left to bring in freshman designated hitter James Venuto.

Elon softball splits pivotal doubleheader against Delaware

While 18 runners left on base may not be a typical recipe for success, the Elon University softball team cashed in on enough opportunities late in its second game to split its doubleheader against the University of Delaware Blue Hens. After losing the first game 4-1 and stranding 11, the Phoenix scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning in the second game.

Women's tennis falls 4-3 to College of Charleston

The Elon University women’s tennis team allowed three unanswered points to lose 4-3 to close its match against the College of Charleston. “I think we can learn from this and maybe be more disciplined on the court and a little smarter with our strategies,” head coach Elizabeth Anderson said.

Elon junior track athlete charged with assault

UPDATED: Friday, 1:48 p.m. Jennifer Diane Esposito, a 20-year-old junior and member of the women’s track and field team, was arrested early Tuesday morning on a simple assault charge. Esposito struck the victim with a closed fist, per the Alamance County Clerk of Court.
