Phoenix eyes revenge against top SoCon foes

With the season winding down, the Elon University women’s basketball team will have to work to earn any high seed it envisions for itself in the Southern Conference Tournament. The Phoenix plays Davidson College and Appalachian State University, two of the three best teams in the SoCon, on Feb.

Blog tackles college life

Thomas Frank admits that last semester he was over-involved. A typical day for Frank consisted of working as an RA, taking classes, doing homework, working a second job and working on web design for others’ sites as well as his own.  This semester, Frank, a junior Management Information Systems major at Iowa State University, is cutting back on his activities to focus on classes, hang out with friends and, most of all, devote more time to his up-and-coming blog, CollegeInfoGeek.com. “Generally I would be writing the article part of the time in class and part of the time at my second part-time job,” Frank said.

Big freshman class set to make mark on the diamond

As we grow older, certain events signal rites of passage that impact our lives. Things like a first crush,  and the first time behind the wheel of a car are both signs that we’re growing older – both symbols of taking life by the horns. One Friday in January, eight Elon University freshman softball players stepped into a makeshift photo booth in the media relations office tucked away in Alumni Gym for their first headshots as college athletes.

‘She Loves Me’ sets high bar for new semester

Setting foot in McCrary Theatre for a new production by the Department of Performing Arts is nothing if not intriguing. In the last calendar year, the stage has been home to a number of characters — struggling bohemian artists in New York’s Lower East Side; a tribe of politically active hippies; and now, in “She Loves Me,” a group of employees at a parfumerie in 1930s Hungary. It’s a far cry from “Rent” and “Hair,” two high-energy rock musicals that have recently graced the McCrary stage.
