Elon University’s Campus Safety and Police will launch LiveSafe, a smartphone safety application, March 30. The app will allow students to submit tips to Campus Security via their smartphones as well as communicate with officers on duty. To urge students to download the app, Campus Safety and Police will administer a scavenger hunt from March 30-April 2 that will send students searching for images of the Elon Phoenix across campus.

Elon University freshman Danny Crowe delivered a walk-off single in the 13th inning in his first at-bat of the season to give the Elon University Phoenix an 8-7 win and series sweep against the James Madison Dukes. After trailing 1-0 by the middle of the second inning, Elon senior Chris King responded with a solo homer to left field in the bottom of the second and a 2 RBI homer to right center in the bottom of the third. The Phoenix added to its lead with three runs in the fifth after a sacrifice fly from Cooper, a passed ball from the Dukes and an RBI single from freshman James Venuto. But the Dukes refused to go away quietly. James Madison scored a pair in the top of the seventh and cut the deficit to two by the middle of the eighth. After Elon delivered an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth to go up 7-4, James Madison's offense exploded. Senior Jake Stalzer came in relief in the top of the ninth with a runner on first.

Elon University, in conjunction with the national office of Pi Kappa Phi, closed the Epsilon Alpha chapter of Pi Kappa Phi March 17 until January 2017, according to an email to The Pendulum from Smith Jackson, dean of students. This comes more than a month after the fraternity was suspended indefinitely for allegations of hazing. Jackson said a campus investigation and conduct hearing determined that new members of the fraternity were hazed during the spring pledge period and the chapter hosted an unapproved event off-campus with alcohol. “The decision to remove Pi Kappa Phi follows a pattern over several years of discipline for violations of the Elon Honor Code,” Jackson said.
Senior shortstop Andy Moore delivered a walk-off single on Friday in Elon University’s first Colonial Athletic Association baseball game to give the Phoenix a 5-4 win over the James Madison Dukes. After sophomore starting pitcher Matt Harris allowed four James Madison runs in 6.1 innings of pitching, sophomore Nick Beaulac appeared in relief and got himself out of several high-pressure situations. Beaulac entered the game in the top of the seventh inning with one out and a runner on second but got a couple outs to keep the Dukes off the board.
