Another night, another 13 hits: baseball defeats Campbell 7-4

For the first time since March 13, the Elon University baseball team is back to a winning record. Following an 11-9 win Tuesday at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, the Phoenix recorded 13 hits Wednesday en route to a 7-4 victory against Campbell University. Elon got an early 2-0 lead after a run in the top of the second and third innings but surrendered a pair in the bottom of the third to event the score at two apiece. But a breakout three-run fifth provided the Phoenix with enough runs to garner momentum. Senior Casey Jones led off the inning with a double to left field and advanced to third on a single from sophomore Kory Shumate.

Nine-run eighth hands Elon baseball team 14-4 loss

Elon University’s baseball squad has had a dominant offense throughout the course of the season. But after scoring 19 combined runs Friday and Saturday to take the first two games of its road series against Towson University, the Phoenix bats became stagnant. As Elon struggled at the plate, they also struggled on the mound.

Elon baseball loses rubber game 8-3 at College of Charleston

A critical error and five-run bottom of the sixth inning led the College of Charleston Cougars baseball team to an 8-3 win against the Elon University Phoenix on Sunday. After handing the Cougars their first loss in the Colonial Athletic Association on Saturday, the Phoenix found itself in an early three-run deficit. Elon senior Lucas Bakker had a rough start to the game by allowing a walk, a double and a single to the top of the order in the bottom of the first inning to put the Phoenix in a quick 1-0 hole.

Baseball hands No. 26 College of Charleston first CAA loss

After losing Friday's series opener at the College of Charleston 11-3, the Elon University baseball ended the Cougars' 10-0 undefeated record in Colonial Athletic Association play with a 4-1 win on Saturday. The Phoenix offense developed a rhythm in the second and third innings by collecting four runs on five hits. Senior center fielder Quinn Bower put Elon on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning with an RBI single to left to bring in freshman designated hitter James Venuto.

Baseball pulls off 7-5 comeback win against NC State

Over the past few weeks Elon University’s head baseball coach Mike Kennedy has seen his team fail to come back from late deficits. But on Tuesday, Elon scored twice in the seventh and eighth innings to defeat the North Carolina State University Wolfpack 7-5. “It’s nice to see the effort we put forth,” Kennedy said.

Pitching struggles propel Elon baseball to 7-5 loss

After Elon University hit three home runs to defeat Northeastern University on Friday at Latham Park, Northeastern gave Elon a taste of its own medicine today by hitting three home runs en route to a 7-5 victory. “Yesterday, the long ball helped us out,” Elon head coach Mike Kennedy said.

Crowe walk-off gives Phoenix sweep over Dukes

Elon University freshman Danny Crowe delivered a walk-off single in the 13th inning in his first at-bat of the season to give the Elon University Phoenix an 8-7 win and series sweep against the James Madison Dukes. After trailing 1-0 by the middle of the second inning, Elon senior Chris King responded with a solo homer to left field in the bottom of the second and a 2 RBI homer to right center in the bottom of the third. The Phoenix added to its lead with three runs in the fifth after a sacrifice fly from Cooper, a passed ball from the Dukes and an RBI single from freshman James Venuto. But the Dukes refused to go away quietly. James Madison scored a pair in the top of the seventh and cut the deficit to two by the middle of the eighth. After Elon delivered an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth to go up 7-4, James Madison's offense exploded. Senior Jake Stalzer came in relief in the top of the ninth with a runner on first.

Moore, Beaulac deliver in clutch, give baseball squad first CAA win

Senior shortstop Andy Moore delivered a walk-off single on Friday in Elon University’s first Colonial Athletic Association baseball game to give the Phoenix a 5-4 win over the James Madison Dukes. After sophomore starting pitcher Matt Harris allowed four James Madison runs in 6.1 innings of pitching, sophomore Nick Beaulac appeared in relief and got himself out of several high-pressure situations. Beaulac entered the game in the top of the seventh inning with one out and a runner on second but got a couple outs to keep the Dukes off the board.
