Former quarterback Riddle arrested, according to reports

Former Elon University quarterback Scott Riddle was arrested Saturday, Nov. 19, for "assualt on a government official and resisting a public officer," according to The Courier-Tribune of Asheboro, N.C. According to the story on The Courier-Tribune's website and an Asheboro Police report, Riddle, 23, and Caitlyn Prestwood were found unresponsive in Riddle's truck at 3 a.m., which was parked in a random driveway in Asheboro. After being woken up by police and advised to call his mother to pick him up, Riddle became angry and charged officer G.

Football leads Appalachian State 24-14 at halftime

The Elon University football team leads No. 8 ranked Appalachian State University 24-14 at halftime in Rhodes Stadium. The Phoenix scored the game's first 21 points to take a commanding early lead and has not trailed since. After an Appalachian State fumble, Elon got on the board first with a five-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Thomas Wilson to sophomore wide receiver Rasaun Rorie, who caught the first touchdown pass of his career. The Elon defense then forced Appalachian State to punt, and an 11-yard punt set up Elon with starting field position at the Appalachian State 43 yard line.

Despite growing trend, Elon has no plans to offer midnight classes

The registration period at Elon is one that can be stressful, time-consuming and difficult, but there is a new idea that may just make this often dreaded time a much simpler one. According to a recent article in USA Today, many colleges are adding midnight classes to their schedules to make room for more students to get the classes they want. Beginning at Bunker Hill community college in Boston, this idea was brought about with the hopes of offering students more variety in their class schedules. Mark Albertson, registrar and assistant to the provost at Elon University, said it has been several years since midnight classes have been considered.

Sergeant Crystal Sharpe: officer, professor, loyal friend

Sitting in her office, gun holstered and badge in full visibility, Crystal Sharpe, adjunct professor of human service studies, reminisces on the 6-foot wall she put up in her backyard to practice scaling for the physical test at the police academy. "Thank God they took that out of the test," she said. Now a sergeant at the Graham Police Department, Sharpe said she found her true passion in law enforcement. But having such a prestigious title as a woman working in law enforcement is no small feat. "Even as a very small child, she had a very unique personality," said Libby Sharpe, Crystal Sharpe's mother.
