Vagina Monologues highlights women’s issues

            The Vagina Monologues has become a Valentine’s Day tradition for the Elon community and this year, while the topic of Women’s Rights hangs in the air around the country, the performance aims to be even more poignant than years passed.             The Vagina Monologues is a play written by Eve Ensler that premiered in 1996 and is performed all around the world each year.  The play consists of monologues that Ensler composed after conducting interviews with over 200 women about their experiences.

Students see a textbook delay during first week

It's been almost a week since the spring semester began here at Elon, but many students are still having issues getting their books in time to complete assignments for their classes.  It's a result of a new book-ordering system that was implemented last fall and moved textbooks to a warehouse on Church Street in order to make room in the second floor of the book store for more Elon gear.  Before this process change, textbooks were located on the second floor of the bookstore, available for students to either order ahead of time and pick-up, or for them to pick-up with no previous order. Now, all of the textbooks have moved to a warehouse on South Church Street when, as Barnes and Noble Store Manager Carly Mayer stated, the store noticed that 85% of students would order their textbooks ahead of time.

The Flower Project spreads unconventional love

Throughout Winter Term and the beginning of February, about 40 volunteers gather with colorful scrapbook paper and markers, creating personal, handmade cards with sayings such as “You are so loved” and “You are important.” On Valentine’s Day these cards – along with bouquets of flowers – will be delivered to the Family Justice Center in Burlington, Allied Churches and Crossroads Sexual Assault Resource Center and given to women who were abused, rejected, abandoned or homeless as part of The Flower Project.

Softball swinging into a new season

When Elon University head softball coach Kathy Bocock looks around the field, she finds a lot of familiar faces. And, as the Phoenix enters its third season in the Colonial Athletic Association, Bocock feels confident in the team’s familiarity with each other and the expectations needed.

Little resigns as men's soccer coach

Elon University head men's soccer coach Chris Little resigned from his position Tuesday morning to become the Director of Coaching for the academy of the MLS' Seattle Sounders FC. In his three seasons as head coach, Little led the Phoenix to a 30-18-9 record, earning one NCAA Tournament appearance and getting the school's first win in an NCAA Tournament match in 2015. Elon won a share of the Colonial Athletic Association regular season championship in 2015, a season in which the Phoenix reached its highest-ever national ranking, at eighth. He becomes the second consecutive men's soccer head coach to leave the program for an MLS academy director job after Darren Powell left after 2013 to lead Orlando City SC's Academy.

Turnovers, 3-pointers lead to third straight loss for Elon

The Elon University men’s basketball team lost 82-77 to Drexel University in what is now their fifth loss in the last six games. Elon never led and now falls to a 5-7 record in the Coastal Athletic Association. Drexel, who entered the game last in conference scoring, put up 82 points in front of an energetic crowd that saw a season high 2,021 people in attendance.

Elon University sees registration for Scholarship Weekend increase

Elon University’s Scholarship Weekend is expected to see 1,143 applicants on campus, with 130 interviewing virtually, for the Fellows programs, Accelerated programs and the 3+1 Dual Degree program. According to Vice President for Enrollment Greg Zaiser, registration is approximately 30% higher than last year.
